Police question 4 for unsolicited job interview in Lagos (Vanguard)
The Lagos State Police Command says it has invited and interrogated four suspects for allegedly sending unsolicited job interview messages to members of the public.
The command’s spokesman, CSP Chike Oti, told newsmen on Thursday that the suspects were invited following a complaint by a member of the public.
He said the complainant (name withheld) claimed to have received a message for a job interview from the accused individuals. Oti added that the suspects were interrogated and set free because they were not into fraud as alleged.
“However, investigations showed that they are not fraudsters. They are drug products promoters looking for vendors,’’ the police spokesman said. Read more
Polygraph test indicts teacher on ‘child defilement’ (Nation)
Did a supervisor with Chrisland Schools in Lekki, Lagos, Adegboyega Adenekan, accused of defiling a 35-month-old pupil, lie about his relationship with the girl? Yes, says a report of the polygraph test conducted on him by an expert, Falola Adebayo.
A polygraph machine is used to determine whether a person is deceptive or lying. Justice Sybil Nwaka of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court will on October 10 rule on the admissibility of the report.
Adenekan’s counsel Olatunde Adejuyigbe (SAN) objected to the admissibility of the report when the prosecutor, Babajide Boye, sought to tender it in evidence. Read more
Gunmen attack Lagos bank customer, steal N250,000 (Punch)
A gang of robbers have met their Waterloo at Morogbo, in the Badagry area of Lagos State after they were caught for robbing a bank customer of N250,000. Punch Metro learnt that the suspects were beaten to a pulp by a mob on Friday before they were handed over to policemen from the Morogbo division.
Our correspondent gathered that the men – Saka Ibrahim (25), Oni Kudaisi (35), Sodiq Dauda (28), and Taiwo Popoola (24) – waylaid their victim, who had just withdrawn the money from an Access Bank branch at Car Wash bus stop.
The gunmen reportedly collected the money, shot into the air to scare residents and fled on two motorcycles they brought for the operation. Read more
60-year-old Lagos driver defiles daughter, 12 (Punch)
A driver, Amusat Ashiru, has been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command for defiling his daughter. The 60-year-old was alleged to have raped his third daughter several times at their home on Efon Alaye Street, in the Akowonjo area of the state.
It was gathered that the Oyo State indigene had had two children with his first wife before putting the victim’s mother in a family way.
The child was said to have been living with her grandmother in Abeokuta, Ogun State, before the suspect brought her to Lagos in April. Read more

Mrs. Amy Riley a British citizen residing in Birmingham West Midland in United Kingdom and the couple’s one year old daughter were visiting her husband Mr. Gbengà Tonade in Lagos but the happy moment the family was spending together turned sour when suspected hoodlums attacked them with dangerous weapon along Ladipo/Mushin Road in Lagos. Landlady removes house’s roof, tenants lament property loss (Punch)
Tenants of a building on Ijero Road, Apapa, Lagos State, have lamented the loss of their property after their landlady allegedly removed the roof of the house.
The landlady was said to have been represented by the caretaker, Mrs. Tawakalitu Omotosho.
Punch Metro gathered that the exercise, which started around 6am on Sunday while it was raining heavily, led to the destruction of the property of the tenants. The tenants had reportedly been issued notices to quit by their landlady through the caretaker.
One of the tenants, Mrs. Taiwo Akintola, said the notice came about nine days to the renewal of rents, adding that a one-month extension was later agreed upon at the office of the Lagos State Mediation Centre. Read more
Man mistaken as Rival Cult, Stabbed to Death in Lagos (Independent)
Two suspected cultists — Samuel Stanley and Wisdom Peter — who allegedly stabbed a man to death with a knife, were on Monday remanded in prison on the orders of an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The men had mistaken the victim, Adedeji Femi, for a member of a rival cult.
The duo of Stanley, 28, and Peter, 19, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.
According to the Police Prosecutor Maria Dauda, the duo accused stabbed him on the chest with a knife in an attack they launched on people they thought were members of a rival cult.
She said the offences were committed on June 1 about 8.30pm at Agbaro-Ojo, Ikorodu in Lagos State. Read more
Man held for suicide makes second attempt in police cell (Guardian)
A secondary school dropout, Owolabi Ogunwande, who allegedly attempted to hang himself at a tollgate and in a police cell in Lagos State, was brought before an Igbosere Magistrates Court, Lagos.
Ogunwande, 27, was arraigned on a two-count charge of attempted suicide before Mr. Aro Lambo.
Prosecuting Inspector Cyriacus Osuji said Ogunwande committed the offence on June 28 at about 1:30pm at Toll Gate, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area. He also committed the same offence at about 11:30am on Monday, in a cell at Maroko Police Station, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
On both occasions Ogunwande tried to hang himself on the neck with a rope, the court heard. Read more
Lagos fuel fire ignites panic in Apapa, Mile 2, Kirikiri (SUN)
Friday, June 29, 2018. It was the morning after the mayhem, the day after sheer hell poured down on Lagos in copious quantities. The gridlock on the Otedola Bridge axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway – the scene of carnage and source of the unimaginable traffic chaos that paralysed many parts of Lagos the previous night – had thinned out.
The flames and the clouds of thick, dark smoke had evaporated, though the ashes and black soot remained – a constant reminder to passersby of the nerve-wracking horrors of the preceding night.
On both sides of the expressway, traffic now flowed fluidly, albeit slowly, as motorists and commuters cast sad glances at the carcasses of vehicles haphazardly relocated from the main road to the right side of the expressway. Emergency workers were back at the scene with their equipment, hauling whatever remained of the razed vehicles away from the road.
A few dozen individuals perambulated around the area, seeking information on their missing relatives and friends. Read more
Lagos schoolgirl, 14, disappears after outing with boyfriend (Punch)
The parents of a schoolgirl, Bilikisu Oseni, are in distress after she left her mother’s shop in the Odogunyan, Ikorodu area of Lagos State, without returning home.
The 14-year-old was reported to have left the shop with a boyfriend, identified only as Wahis, on Sunday, June 24, 2018.
Wahis, a motor boy, had reportedly taken the victim to his apartment on Igbosoro Road, Ikorodu, but the Senior Secondary School one pupil had yet to be seen since then.
The victim’s mother, Fausatu Oseni, said she had travelled to Ogun State for a family function when her daughter followed the suspect. Read more
Police arrest traffic robbers in Lagos (Guardian)
Tunde Raphael, 24, who was last week arrested by officials of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command, has explained how he and 19 other gang members dispossessed motorists and commuters of their belongings in Mile 2 bridge during traffic.
Tunde, who was arrested at about 5am along with two other accomplices, Samuel Kolawole, 23 and Solomon Omini, 32, on Wednesday after a chase by the operatives of the RRS, noted that the only job he had was robbing motorists and commuters of their belongings between 4:00am and 6:30am as well as at night. He disclosed that he and about 20 colleagues work in twos or threes holding toy guns, machetes, jack knives, hammers, rods and other weapons to dispossess commuters of phones, money, jewellery, laptops and other prized possessions.
