Landlady weeps as tenant converts flats to hotel (Punch)
A 75-year-old landlady, Mrs Hannah Otite, has broken down in tears following the conversion of two flats in her property located at No. 3 Kafi Street in the Alausa area of Ikeja, Lagos State, to a hotel by a tenant, Oshinsegun Ashley, without her consent.
Narrating her ordeal to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, Otite said amid sobs that she got to know about the illegal conversion in December 2017, a few months after Ashley had moved into the house. Read more
Businessmen sue Police over alleged rights violation (Nation)
Two businessmen, Akinfolabi Akindele and Taiwo Oyewunmi, have sued the Inspector-General of Police at the Lagos High Court in Ikeja over alleged violation of their fundamental rights.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Assistant Inspector-General of Police and the Lagos Commissioner of Police are the other defendants.
Others are the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ali Mohammed, Taofik Tijani, Sergent Musa Mohammed, Ibrahim Dalatu and Biodun Aguda.
The applicants are praying the court to declare that Oyewunmi’s arrest and detention on October 22 are unconstitutional, null and void. Read more
Soldiers invade septuagenarian professor’s Lagos home (Punch)

Soldiers from a yet-to-be ascertained barracks allegedly stormed the home of a 78-year-old professor of optometry/gynaecology, Chike Anamdi, on October 27, around 3am, and assaulted him and his security guard.
According to Anamdi, he was asleep when the soldiers invaded his small estate, The Doctor’s Place, on Orisunmbare Street by the Transformer bus stop in the Shasha area of Lagos State.
He added that the security guard called him on the telephone to inform him that some soldiers were banging the gate of the estate. Read more

A young man; Adam Kunle, 27, of Makogi area of Ibafo, Ogun State, has given insight into why he sneaked into the home of a 38 – year old woman by noon and allegedly raped her while she was observing siesta.
Kunle who lived in the same neighborhood with the victim said he admired the woman and had been making advances to her for quite some time without success as she kept rejecting his offer.
He added that as the undying admiration persisted, he took advantage of the lady when she was alone at home on Monday, November 4, and had his way with her sexually. Read more

A former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, Mr Bayo Onanuga, has advised that President Muhammadu Buhari should order all his ministers to stop travelling by air within the country.
He said Buhari should order the ministers to instead travel by road for one year.

Rotary urges Nigerians to donate blood (Nation)
President, Rotary Club of Palmgrove Estate, Jayashankar Nalode, has appealed to Nigerians to cultivate the habit of donating blood, saying this will go a long way in saving lives.
He said this at a blood donation camp organised by the Indian Cultural Association, in conjunction with the Association of Indian Professionals, Rotary Club of Palmgrove Estate, Rotary Club of Lagos Island and Lagos State Blood Transfusion Committee.

15-year-old boy sodomises six-year-old (Punch)
The Sexual Assault Centre of Gambo Sawaba Hospital, Zaria, is currently treating two boys aged six and 15, who were sexually assaulted in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The centre manager, Hajiya Amina Umar-Faruq, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday that the six-year-old boy was brought to the centre by his father for medical intervention.
She said the boy was brought to the centre for treatment after it was discovered that the 15-year-old had been sexually violating him. Read more
‘Ice eggs’ cover Finland beach in rare weather event (BBC)
Thousands of egg-shaped balls of ice have covered a beach in Finland, the result of a rare weather phenomenon.
Amateur photographer Risto Mattila was among those who came across the “ice eggs” on Hailuoto Island in the Gulf of Bothnia between Finland and Sweden.
Experts say it is caused by a rare process in which small pieces of ice are rolled over by wind and water.
Mr Mattila, from the nearby city of Oulu, told the BBC he had never seen anything like it before. Read more
Hair of Bolivia mayor Patricia Arce forcibly cut by protesters (Guardian)
The mayor of a small town in Bolivia has been attacked by opposition protesters who dragged her through the streets barefoot, covered her in red paint and forcibly cut her hair.
Patricia Arce of the governing Mas party was handed over to police in Vinto after several hours.
It is the latest in a series of violent clashes between government supporters and opponents in the wake of controversial presidential elections. At least three people have died so far. Read more

African players ‘not respected’ in Ballon d’Or vote, says Eto’o (Guardian)
African players still do not get the recognition they deserve, Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o told AFP in an exclusive interview, as he hopes that this will finally be the year another player from the continent wins the Ballon d’Or.
George Weah, the former Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan striker who is now the president of Liberia, won the Ballon d’Or in 1995 but remains the only African player ever to have claimed the award.

Sports minister sacks AFN Technical Director Adeleye (Punch)
The Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Sunday Adeleye, has been sacked.
His removal was contained in a letter addressed to the AFN president, Shehu Gusau.
A letter from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development said Adeleye’s sack was ordered by the sports minister, Sunday Dare.
Apart from Adeleye’s sack, the AFN secretary-general, Adamu Elijah, was also recalled by the sports ministry.
