LASU students declare support for Sanwo-Olu’s peace walk – Opeyemi Ajao

Students of the Lagos State University (LASU) have shown their support for the ‘‘Walk for Peace’’ initiative proposed by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. In a video, which has since gone viral online, the students alongside the members of the university’s administration were singing praises to Mr Sanwo-Olu during his visit to the institution.

The peace walk was to commemorate the one year anniversary of the Lekki Tollgate massacre which happened on the 20th of October, 2020. This followed the release of the report submitted by the Judicial Panel set up by the state government in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protest. On November 30, Sanwo-Olu offered the invitation to celebrities and prominent individuals including; Debo Adebayo (Mr Macaroni); Folarin Falana (Falz); Seun Kuti; Segun Awosanya (Segalinks), Commisioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu and others, to join him in the ‘‘historic’’ march.

However, the celebrities turned down the invitation with Macaroni stating his reason for rejecting it. According to Vanguard, the comedian replied that the government set up the panel and made recommendations. He believed that genuine packaging will begin by implementing the recommendations of the panel and trusting the government.

For Falz, He described Sanwo-Olu’s invitation as a joke, nothing that it is disrespectful to invite him for a peace walk, while justice has not been served since the alleged killing of protesters at Lekki Toll Gate. “People were murdered in cold blood and absolutely no iota of justice has been served more than a year after.  How can there be peace without justice? #EndSARS”.
