LASU’s management calls for caution on death of final-year student (Nation)

The Management of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has called for caution from its students following the alleged murder of one of the institution’s final-year-female students.

It also urged them to remain calm to allow the law enforcement agents conclude their investigation into the matter.

The university’s spokesman, Mr Ademola Adekoya, said on Sunday in Lagos that the LASU’s Vice-Chancellor (V-C), Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, made the appeal. Read more

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said on Sunday his administration is highly committed to the Badagry seaport project.

The governor stated this at the Badagry Integrity Awards 2019 organised by Badagry Parrot Prints and Publication in Badagry.

He was represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Solomon Bonu.

According to Sanwo-Olu, Badagry has been identified for the seaport project for the past four years. Read more

Pastor, lover kill girlfriend for ritual (Nation)

A Pastor in a white garment church, Segun Philip, has been arrested by the Police in connection with the killing of a final year Theater Art student of Lagos State University, Favour Daley-Oladele, for ritual purposes.

Also arrested along with the self – acclaimed Pastor Segun, is 23 years old boy, Adeeko Owolabi, who is alleged to have connived with the pastor to killed the undergraduate student.

The deceased was reported to have left home to an unknown destination since 8th of December 2019 and has not been found, prompting the parents to report a case of missing person at the Mowe Police Station. Read more

The Senior Pastor of Latter Rain Ministry said the other times he had stepped into a banking hall would be either to sanctify a new branch.

Two die, nine injured in Ogun auto crash (Punch)

Two persons have been confirmed dead while nine persons sustained injuries during an accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State.

The fatal accident, which occurred opposite new Makun in the Mowe area of the state, involved a Toyota Hiace commercial bus with the number plate, KSF 272 YN.

The Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the accident on Friday. Read more

ACF calls for deployment of modern technology to tackle insecurity (Vanguard)

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) on Saturday called the deployment of modern technology to tackle insecurity in the country.

The ACF, in a statement issued in Kaduna by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim, also implored government at all levels to bring succour to Nigerians through effective implementation of the 2020 budget.

It noted that with the signing into law of the 2020 budget, the Financial Bill and the amendment to the Production Sharing Contracts, “Nigerians now look forward to its full implementation in order to bring about some succour to the people. Read more

Monsey stabbing: Five people wounded at home of New York rabbi (BBC)

At least five people have been stabbed at the house of a rabbi in New York state, police say.

The house in Monsey, north of New York City, was hosting a religious celebration when the attacker burst in, according to the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council (OJPAC).

The suspect fled but was later taken into custody, police said. The motive was not immediately clear.

One of the victims was stabbed at least six times, OJPAC said in a tweet. Read more

A transgender man has given birth to a baby he will raise with his non-binary partner, with the help of a female sperm donor. Reuben Sharpe, 39, transitioned to male 12 years ago but decided he still wanted to become a parent. Six years ago he stopped taking hormones in the hope of the dream coming true, and now it has been realised with baby Jamie, who was born three months ago. Yemen: Houthis blamed for attack on military parade (BBC)

A missile strike that targeted a military parade in southern Yemen has killed at least five people.

The attack came at the end of a graduation ceremony for recruits to the Security Belt forces – a powerful organisation backed by the United Arab Emirates – in the town of al-Dhalea.

Security Belt are part of the coalition that has fought with Yemen’s government against the Houthi rebels.

Officials have blamed the Houthis for the attack on the parade. Read more

With the assistance of medical professionals, Zac was allegedly flown to Brisbane, Australia from Papua New Guinea, according to The Sunday Telegraph. Muslim-majority Burkina Faso has been hit by a wave of violence by militant Islamists in recent years. Christmas Eve saw more than 30 people, mostly women, killed in a suspected jihadist attack.

But behind such grim headlines lies a more complex picture. The country has a history of religious tolerance, and it is not uncommon to see families made up of both Muslims and Christians, who make up about 23% of the population.

Journalist Clair MacDougall visited one such family in the capital, Ouagadougou.

More than 210 people died this year in 41 mass slayings, making 2019 the deadliest year in massacres since at least the 1970s.

The first incident happened on Jan. 19, when an Oregon man hacked his infant daughter and three other family members to death with an ax.

Forty more mass killings — when four or more died — occurred throughout the next 11 months, from a Walmart shooting in El Paso, Texas, that killed 22 to the massacre of four homeless men on the streets of New York City’s Chinatown in October. Read more
