Louis Tomlinson says he hopes a One Direction reunion will happen ‘one day’

Louis Tomlinson has said he thinks it ‘would be a shame’ if he and his fellow One Direction bandmates never reunite.

The singer, 30, was one-fifth of the group who first found fame on The X Factor in 2010 and went on to become one of the most successful boybands ever.

Speaking on Thursday’s episode of Lorraine on ITV, Louis discussed the prospect of the reunion and also looked back on the group’s rise to fame.

Asked about getting back together, he said: ‘One day, there’s a lot of moving parts but it would be a shame if we didn’t. I hope so.’

One Direction was made up of Louis, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Liam Payne.

Zayn left the group in early 2015 with the remaining four releasing another album – Made In The A.M. – before they went their separate ways.

Speaking about the group’s success, Louis said: ‘It’s easier to see now from the outside looking in, it was a crazy time but amazing to go through with other people. It would have been scary to go through it alone at that age.’

Lorraine told Louis she couldn’t believe his son Freddie was six years old and Louis replied: ‘Yeah, such a great age at the moment.’

Lorraine then asked: ‘Does he now know his dad’s a big deal?’

Louis laughed and said: ‘I’m not going to lie, until he watched my show on the tour in LA maybe four months ago, it had just been stories of me trying to explain to him what it is I do – obviously quite a difficult thing to explain really.

‘But it was amazing to watch him – I could see him, I spotted where he was, he’d arrived with his own little banner.

‘He normally goes to bed at 7 o’clock, but he stayed up for the whole gig. It was definitely the most emotional gig I’ve done – it was amazing though.’

Louis also spoke about recording his new album and how it’s different to his debut album. He revealed: ‘It was a bit of a process on my first record – there was an element of trial and error.

‘Obviously coming out of a band the size of One Direction, it takes time to find yourself, musically, but I really think I’ve found it on this album and this single.’

Lorraine said it’s an optimistic record and Louis replied: ‘That was a conscious decision. On my first record, there was a weight to it emotionally which I think was right for the time but I just wanted to break loose from that now and be optimistic.’

Lorraine added: ‘That’s where you are in yourself,’ and Louis replied, ‘Exactly.’

Louis also revealed he had a chance to ‘declutter his brain’ during lockdown.

He said: ‘Everyone’s experience is individual. For myself, I spend a lot of my life thinking about what the next thing is. And there’s always an element of pressure in my life, which I’m used to.

‘What was great about that time was it gave me a chance to declutter my brain and really think about the next record, and what do I want it to sound and feel like?

‘If I didn’t have that time to reset, it may well have been a different record, so I feel happy to have that time.’ (DailyMail)
