Residents of Agba Dam in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State woke up to a gory scene on Thursday when a mobile police officer shot his lover dead before killing himself on the premises of a nursery school. Daily Trust on Sunday writes on the tragedy which has gone viral on social media platforms.

On Thursday, March 2, 2023, the Redemption Model Nursery and Primary School, Agba Dam, Ilorin, located inside the Chapel of Redemption UMCA, attracted national limelight following the murder of a mother of one, Bamidele Cecilia Oluwatosin, inside the school premises.

The deceased, said to be a cleaner at the Banquet Hall opposite the Government House, was the mother of Desmond, a pupil of the school who will be celebrating his third birthday on May 12, 2023. Read more 

Oil marketers, tanker drivers resume loading at depots nationwide — NMDPRA (Vanguard)

THE Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, weekend, disclosed that operations in loading depots have resumed nationwide, following the successful conclusion of the nation’s Presidential national assembly elections.

The sector regulator said it was working with other stakeholders to mitigate the tightness experienced in the distribution of petrol, adding that the current stock sufficiency stands at 35.39 days to PMS, 34.86 days for Ago and 31.36 days for ATK.

In a statement obtained by Vanguard, Sunday, the Chief Executive Officer, NMDPRA, Mr. Ahmed Farouk, stated: “The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, assures Nigerians that operations in loading depots have fully resumed following the restriction of movements during the recently concluded presidential and national assembly elections which necessitated truck drivers to travel to exercise their civic duty. Soldiers shoot 15-year-old boy, keke operator dead in Lagos (Punch)

The family of a 15-year-old boy, Pelumi Sulaimon, have been thrown into mourning after soldiers attached to Operation MESA allegedly shot him dead around Makoko, in the Yaba area of Lagos State.

According to residents in the area, the soldiers were hired by political thugs to carry out a reprisal on their opponents in the community on Sunday, February 26.

PUNCH Metro gathered that when the soldiers got to the community, they started shooting indiscriminately and in the process, a stray bullet hit Pelumi who was on his way to buy drinks for his friends to celebrate his birthday. Read more 

Lagos court commences inquest on death of Chrisland school pupil (Guardian)

A Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogba, will today commence coroner inquest on the death of Whitney Omodesola Adeniran, the late student of Chrisland School, Opebi, Lagos.

The Guardian learnt that Magistrate (Mrs.) O. Fajana will commence sitting to unravel circumstances surrounding the death of the 12-year-old girl, who died on February 9, 2023, during the school’s inter-house sports at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.

She was buried last Thursday in Lagos, after an autopsy, conducted by Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), dated March 1, 2023 , revealed that she died as a result of asphyxia and electrocution. Read more 

Domestic worker, others cut septuagenarian’s genitals (Punch)

A domestic worker, Onyebuchi Ezeh, alongside two other fleeing suspects, has allegedly used a sharp object to cut some vital organs including the genitals of a 72-year-old woman in Umunze, in the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the septuagenarian was at her residence when Ezeh led the two other suspects into the premises on Thursday.

While on the premises, the suspects pinned down the 72-year-old woman, brought out a sharp object and reportedly used it in cutting the woman’s genitals, ear, nipple, and fingers, among others.

After perpetrating the crime, the suspects fled and abandoned the septuagenarian for dead. Read more 

Rigging Claims: Kaigama cautions against judicial blackmail (Vanguard)

Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, His Grace Most Rev Ignatius Kaigama, has admonished the political class to allow the judiciary to perform its constitutional functions, saying God above was watching how the courts will perform.

Kaigama gave the admonition yesterday in his sermon at St. Augustine Church, Lugbe, Abuja, following claims of manipulation in the results of last weekend’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Huge fire at Rohingya camp leaves 12,000 homeless (BBC) 

Thousands of people have been left without shelter after a massive fire broke out in a crowded Rohingya refugee camp in southeastern Bangladesh.

The blaze, which broke out on Sunday, engulfed some 2,000 shelters at a camp known as Cox’s Bazar.

Hundreds of people have now returned to the area to see what they can salvage from the ruins.

Tunisia’s president denounced racism on Sunday and pointed to possible legal consequences for perpetrators 10 days after announcing a crackdown on illegal migration using language the African Union condemned as “racialized hate speech.”

During a statement on February 21 telling security forces to expel all illegal immigrants, President Kais Saied called migration a conspiracy to change Tunisia’s demographics by making it more African and less Arab.
