Mammoth crowd cheers Peter Obi in Kogi

A mammoth crowd welcomed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi to Kogi State as he held a grand rally at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, yesterday.

Addressing the crowd, Mrs.  Aisha Yesufu, said Nigeria was bleeding and all hands must be on deck to vote in the right person as president.

“Nigeria needs Peter Obi. He represents fearlessness. We are no longer safe in our own homes. We must vote for somebody we can hold accountable to provide good governance. Our lives must matter. We must vote for someone who can make our lives matter and Peter Obi is the one. Nigerian youths are tired of knowing someone before you can gain employment, vote for inclusiveness, let’s give Nigeria a president that is competent and can deliver us,” she said.

The presidential candidate, who said he was impressed with the turnout, said if elected he would offer selfless service to Nigerians and curb corruption.

“Good people of Kogi State, we are not here to buy your vote, we are here to tell you how we are going to save the country. We want  to unite Nigeria. We want to bring the family back together. We want to bring back the rule of law. We want to remove Nigeria from consumption to production country.

“We will make sure production starts from local level. We will increase minimum wage since the minimum wage today can hardly sustain workers. We should be able to produce enough for consumption and even export to create wealth.

“We will consult before taking any decisions on any matter that affects you because we believe in inclusiveness and rule of law. I can assure you that if given the chance, I will never disappoint you.”

National Chairman of the party, Mr Julius Abure, urged the people to vote wisely in the forthcoming election saying, Obi has been tested and trusted and was the one that would run a transparent, inclusive government.

“There’s no gainsaying that Nigeria is comatose. There is insecurity everywhere. Farmers can no longer go to farms. We cannot travel without fear of being kidnapped. Failed leadership has failed us but the beauty of democracy is that it provides avenue for legitimate change through the ballot. So, vote wisely.” (Sun)
