A 21-year-old man, Baraka Olamide, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, charged with stealing N1.1 million and electronics valued at N687,000.
Olamide, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Dr Simon Uche told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 1, at the Electronics Section of Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos.
He said that Olamide stole an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card belonging to one Ifeoma Abonyi and withdrew the sum of N1.1 million from the complainant’s bank account.
Uche said that the defendant also stole electronic appliances worth N687,000, belonging to the complainant.
He said that Olamide was arrested following a police investigation.
Uche said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr L K.J Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N800,000 with two responsible sureties,.
He said that one of the suretees must be a community leader.
Layeni adjourned the case until Sept. 1 for trial. (NAN)
