A 22-year-old unemployed man, Umaru Abubakar, who allegedly stole clothes and N500,000 from a businesswoman and inflicted wounds on her, has been arraigned in Lagos.
Abubakar is standing trial before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of inflicting bodily harm and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty on Thursday before the Magistrate, Mr J. K. Layeni.
The prosecutor, Dr Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Oct. 5 about 6.40 p.m. at Alaba Rago Market in Okokomaiko, Ojo.
Uche alleged that the defendant attacked the complainant, Mrs Chiamaka Adiole, who sells cloths in the market.
He submitted that Abubakar stabbed Adiole on the mouth and shoulders, with a knife.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant overpowered the complainant and carted away cloths worth N20,000 and a cash sum of N500,000.
He said that the cloths and money belonged to the complainant.
Uche said that the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 246 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Nov. 11 for mention. (NAN)
