Man, 25, docked for allegedly stealing foodstuffs

A 23-year-old man, Suleiman Shonibare, on Wednesday appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for alleged stealing of a bag of rice and other food items.

The defendant is standing trial before the Magistrate, Mrs D.S. Odukoya, on a count charge of stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Esther Adesulu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 5 at Abule Ado in Ojo.

She alleged that the defendant stole the items from the complainant, Mrs Kafayat Qadri.

According to the prosecutor, the stolen items include three packets of two kilogrammes of Semovita and 25 litres of groundnut oil.

Adesulu said that all the stolen items worth N69,900.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that stealing contravenes Section 287of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Aug. 17 for trial. (NAN)
