Man, 37, faces N3.5m visa scam charge

A 37-year old man, Victor Onyejide, who allegedly obtained N3.5 million under the guise of procuring a Kuwait visa, was on Thursday brought before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Onyejide, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and stealing, preferred against him by the police.

The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 2, 2021, at 4.00 p.m., at No.3, Adeode St., Isuti, at Egan, Lagos.

According to him, the defendant fraudulently obtained the amount from one Mr Kindness Okedurum, to procure a visa to Kuwait for him but failed to do so.

The prosecutor said that the defendant converted the money to his own personal use.

He said that the offence contravened the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, granted the defendant bail for N600,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

She also ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant.

Ariyo adjourned the case until May 12 for mention. (NAN)
