Lagos arraigns man for assaulting firefighter (Punch)

The Lagos State Fire Service has said it had begun a legal action against one Waheed Balogun for assaulting an officer of the agency who was on duty in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

The Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Ololade Agboola, said this in a statement made available to PUNCH Metro on Tuesday.

Agboola stated that the suspect was arraigned before Magistrate A.A. Adesanya of a Special Offences (Mobile) Court sitting in the Oshodi area of the state. Read more

Lagos court remands man for defiling 8-year-old girl (Punch)

A 54-year-old man, Jegede Folorunsho, has been remanded to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl in the Mushin area of Lagos State.

The defendant was on Monday charged with defilement of the minor before Magistrate O.M. Ajayi sitting before a Magistrate Court in the Ebute Metta area of the state.

The police brought Folorunsho with a remand application seeking that the defendant be remanded in prison custody while requesting the court to permit them to duplicate and send the case file to the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice. Read more

Vandal to die by hanging, accomplice bags 16 years (Punch)

A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja on Tuesday sentenced a vandal, Clement Ododomu, to death by hanging and Tiwei Monday to 16 years imprisonment at the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Justice Hakeem Oshodi who had handed down the verdict on October 11, 2023, convicted Ododomu and Monday after he found them guilty of the offences of murder and conspiracy.

The judge had reserved judgment for Tuesday, November 14, 2023, but the judgment could not go on due to the Nigerian Labour Congress strike action.

Mohbad’s autopsy report not with us yet – Police (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has said the autopsy report of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad, conducted two months ago has not been given to them.

Today, Tuesday, November 21, 2023, makes it two months since the corpse of the late Mohbad was exhumed and an autopsy commenced to unravel the cause of the death of the singer.

Mohbad’s death on September 12 sparked controversies in Nigeria and beyond which prompted the police to set up an investigative team to determine what led to the singer’s demise. Read more

Father sues sons for alleged assault, theft (Punch)

A man, Ade Olowopopo, has taken his two sons, Kunle and Mayowa Olowopopo, to court for allegedly assaulting their sister, Bisi Olowopopo, and for stealing his properties at Lakwe Lekki, Lagos State.

The Olowopopos were arraigned on Monday before Magistrate O. M. Ajayi sitting before an Ebute Metta Magistrate’s Court on five counts bordering on breach of peace, assault, breaking, stealing, and threat to life.

The prosecutor, Paul Ugorji, told the court that the defendants committed the crime sometime in 2019 when the complainant was out of the country. Read more

Family seeks justice for 7-year-old rape victim (Punch)

The family of a seven-year-old girl (name withheld) has demanded justice over the alleged sexual abuse of the girl by one of their neighbours in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

The aunt of the victim, Adeola Adesanya, disclosed this in an interview with PUNCH Metro on Thursday.

Adesanya said the family was more pained by the action of the police who he claimed had released the suspect without proper prosecution on the grounds that the correctional centres across the state were filled up and there was no space to accommodate inmates. Read more

Man in court for stealing employer’s clothes, stabilisers (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command on Friday arraigned a man, Jackson Clinton, before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, for allegedly burgling and stealing his employer’s property in the Gbagada area of the state.

The 24-year-old defendant was arraigned on two counts bordering on burglaries and stealing before Magistrate Linda Balogun.

The defendant was charged with stealing his employer’s horsepower air conditioner worth N300,000; 10 school bags worth N35,500; three bags of clothes worth N88,000; three stabilisers worth N120,000; four compressors worth N200,000; expensive wines among other things. Read more

Gunmen kill Lagos motorcycle rider (Punch)

Suspected gunmen have killed a 40-year-old motorcycle rider identified simply as Muhideen in the Igando area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident happened last Friday.

The deceased was said to have received a call from an unknown client who requested his service around the area at about 8pm. He, however, left for the location but did not return home that night. Read more

Navy uncovers illegal depots in Nigeria-Benin border communities (Punch)

The Nigerian Navy, through its operation Water Guard, has discovered multiple illegal depots where thousands of empty and filled Jerry cans with Premium Motor Spirit were stockpiled in Badagry and the Nigerian-Benin boundary communities.

Addressing pressmen on Thursday, Commander Joint Task Force Operation AWATSE, Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral MB Hassan stated that the discovery of these multiple illegal depots made on Wednesday afternoon was prompted by the electro-optic facilities and air assets employed by the NN.

The FOC further revealed that the illegal gallons with PMS were discovered in schools, houses, and recreational centres located within the Badagry inland area and adjoining creeks along the Nigeria-Benin Republic boundary. Read more

Tension as gunmen abduct Lagos govt official in Ikorodu (Vanguard)

An official of Lagos State government, whose name is yet to be ascertained, was reportedly kidnapped by some hooded gunmen at his residence in Igbe-Oloja, Ikorodu, Lagos on Monday.

The incident which sent shock waves in and around the serene but swampy area reportedly took place around 9p.m., when the man was approaching his residence at Progressive Estate in Ikorodu.   

He was said to have parked his car a few meters to his house and after calling his wife to open the gate for him, he approached his gate only for the heavily armed gunmen to accost them and whisk him away. Read more

Landlord gets double sentence for defilement of tenant’s children (Independent)

Justice Abiola Soladoye of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Do­mestic Violence Court, on Mon­day, sentenced a 65-year-old man, Igwe Ambrose, to double life jail term for inserting fingers into the private parts of his tenant’s children, ages seven and 11.

The trial judge held that the prosecution proved the four-count charge, bordering on sex­ual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child, against Ambrose case beyond reasonable doubt.

Soladoye said that the defen­dant was a dirty old man who fin­gered and touched the breasts of the survivors under the pretext of helping them with their school homework. Read more
