Fake Lagos driver robs passengers of N1.2m valuables (Punch)

A 39-year-old man, Charles Inibu, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, for allegedly disguising as a commercial driver to rob unsuspecting passengers of their valuables in the Victoria Island area of the state.

The defendant was charged before Chief Magistrate P.E Nwaka, on two counts bordering on conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.

The prosecution, led by Sgt. Juliana, said Inibu pretended to be a commercial bus driver at the time of the incident within Victoria Island in Lagos, to lure passengers into his bus.

However, Inibu and others still at large, dispossessed the victims of their belongings. Read more

Man arrested for stealing 15-year-old child in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command on Monday confirmed the arrest of a 22-year-old man, Ayomide Fawehinmi, who was rescued from a mob action over an allegation of stealing an underaged child in the Surulere area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect was rescued and thereafter arrested following a distress call received from members of the community.

In a press statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect lured a 15-year-old boy from his mother’s shop and took him to an unknown destination before he was accosted by a neighbour who raised the alarm.

It was gathered that Fawehinmi had earlier dispossessed the boy of an Itel android phone to cut off communication with his mother. Read more

21-year-old steals boss’ car to fund relocation abroad (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man identified as Temple Samuel for stealing his boss’ Lexus ES 330 car.

The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad, according to a statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin.

Hundeyin said Samuel was arrested with three others in the Ogba area of the state.

He identified those arrested with the suspect to include Benjamin Bassey aged 32, Chukwuemeka Okorie aged 29 and Joshua Agboche aged 37, who had conspired with him to sell the car. Read more

Missing Lagos boy found after PUNCH report (Punch)

A seven-year-old boy, Adam Afolabi, who went missing in a neighbourhood in Mushin, Lagos State, for five days, has been found in the Ojo area of the state.

PUNCH Metro had reported that Adam went missing after his elder sister, Zainab, 19, sent him on an errand to buy biscuits at a shop in their neighbourhood.

The minor was said to be on his way to buy the biscuits when three yet-to-be-identified men whisked him away to an undisclosed location.

The situation, however, threw Adam’s family into a panic and a search party was set up to locate his whereabouts. Read more

Driver remanded over alleged N5.5m theft (Punch)

A 35-year-old driver, Paul Adebayo, has been remanded for allegedly stealing property to the tune of N5,549.000, in the Omole Estate area of Lagos State.

Adebayo, who was arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate’s Court, is facing two counts bordering on breach of peace and stealing.

The charges read in part, “That you, Paul Adebayo, on June 15, 2022, at Oladipo Soyebo Street, Omole Estate, Ikeja, and in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal two gold bangles, three wristwatches, three tone necklaces, four gold chains, gold ring with diamond, all property valued at N5,549,000, of one Adebayo Omowunmi.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offences. Read more

Hoodlums invade Lagos communities, rob residents, victims lament (Punch)

Landlords, residents and business owners have lamented the growing threats posed by hoodlums in various areas in Abule Egba Joint Community Development Association, Abule Egba, in the Agbado Oke Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the hoodlums, who lurk around the community, had been attacking and robbing residents and businessmen on their way to work in the morning and while returning home at night.

A resident in the community, Olajide Falowo, said anything from 7pm movement in the community was no longer safe, adding that the hoodlums had been operating at will.

Falowo said, “We are in distress. Moving from Abule-Egba to Ahmadiya to Ile Epo is no longer safe at night. Hoodlums now snatch phones and dispossess commuters and motorists of their belongings. I can tell you right now that once it is 7pm, it is not safe to go out to the main road to withdraw money.” Read more

Police deploy operatives after suspected cultists kill NURTW boss in Lagos (Channels)

Police operatives in Lagos have been deployed to strategic locations after a clash by suspected cultists in the Mile 12 area of the state.

The hoodlums were said to have killed a man on Sunday in the Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State, a situation that caused panic among residents of the area.

Channels Television gathered that the victim – Sulaimon Onaolapo – popularly known as Akiru, was the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, told Channels Television that a detachment of the police Rapid Response Officers led by its Commander, Yinka Egbeyemi has been deployed to the area to restore peace. Read more

Police confirm killing of Lagos Park leader in Mile-12 (Guardian)

The Police Command in Lagos State on Monday confirmed the killing of one Alhaji Sulaimon Onaolapo, popularly known as Akiru, who was the leader of Mile-12 Lagos Parks and Garages.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the killing to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.

“One Alhaji Sule was killed following the incident at Mile 12. No arrest made yet. Normalcy returned. Police officers on the ground to prevent reprisals,” he said.

NAN had earlier gathered that there was pandemonium at the Mile-12 area in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos state, following the killing of a member of the parks and garages, Mr. Sulaimon Onaolapo. Read more

Man blames alcohol after raping friend’s wife in Lagos (Guardian)

The police in Lagos have arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly raping his friend’s wife in their bedroom in Surulere, Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident happened at about 2:00 a.m. on 22 August.

NAN gathered that the suspect allegedly burgled the apartment of the victim and unlawfully had sexual intercourse with her.

The victim told NAN that she was sleeping with her husband on the same bed in their apartment when she felt she was being made love to. Read more

NDLEA arrests Lagos airport cleaner who leads drug syndicate (Guardian)

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested a cleaner at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja Lagos, Ohiagu Sunday, who leads a drug syndicate at the international wing of the airport.

NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr. Femi Babafemi, in a statement, yesterday, said the suspect was  arrested on Tuesday, August 23,  following the arrest of an intending passenger on Air Peace flight to Dubai, United Arab Emirate (UAE), Obinna Jacob Osita,  who was arrested with three bags, two of which contained eight blocks of Cannabis sativa, weighing 4.25kg concealed in cassava product, gari and crayfish.

Babafemi said, one other member of the airport syndicate, who works with Ohiagu has also been arrested while operatives are after another suspect.

He said: “Investigations revealed that a Dubai-based drug dealer recruited Obinna, a 42-year-old native of Anambra State to traffic the drugs and equally contracted Ohiagu, a 34-year-old airport cleaner from Imo State to create access for the unhindered passage of the trafficker. Read more

Police arrest fake army captain for armed robbery, recover car (Guardian)

Detectives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 39-year-old ‘Army Captain’, Andy Teddy Edwards, for armed robbery. The fake soldier allegedly posed as a modelling agent, invited ladies for auditioning and then robbed them of their cars and valuables at gunpoint.

Spokesperson for the Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement, yesterday, said Edwards was arrested following an investigation launched after one of his victims reported the robbery of her Lexus marked: RX330 SUV.

He said further investigation led to the recovery of one Ford Edge Sports Utility Van (SUV) with registration number KRD 276 EG, one sewing machine, one Point of Sale (POS) machine,  six SIM cards, two pairs of military camouflage and one number plate, AFL 469 GD, in the suspect’s house.

Hundeyin said the suspect would be arraigned at the conclusion of investigation and urged the owner of the Ford SUV to come forward to claim the same.

Gunmen kill Inspector in Lagos (Guardian)

The Police Command in Lagos State has confirmed the killing of an Inspector by gunmen on Wednesday in Coker Aguda area of Lagos.

The spokesman for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos that the Inspector was inside a tricycle when he was shot.

The spokesman, however, said that the command had commenced an investigation to track and arrest the gunmen.

Hundeyin said that the tricycle driver was arrested for questioning after the incident, but released with an instruction to appear again on Thursday to assist with the investigation. Read more

Hoodlums clash, block Lagos-Badagry expressway (Guardian)

There was pandemonium in the Ijanikin area of Lagos, yesterday, as hoodlums and rival gangs in the community attacked one another.

Trouble started when masquerades from the community allegedly assaulted an indigene.

Many miscreants capitalised on the  situation to attack sellers at the shoe, bags and textile market. Commuters plying the Lagos Badagry road were forced to divert to escape being caught up by the situation.

The Guardian learnt that before the incident, some community members had severally sent an Save Our Soul (SOS) message to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to address the barbaric acts of youths in the area. Read more
