The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested a fish farmer, Jeremiah Obifor, 61, for allegedly cutting off the hand of an 11-year-old boy, Goodluck Amechi. The Spokesperson of the police in Lagos state, DSP Bala Elkana, said in a statement in Lagos on Sunday that the man cut off the boy’s hand who he suspected had come to steal his fish. Elkana said that the suspect was arrested after the victim’s foster mother, Doris Isaac, reported the matter at the Okoko, Police Station. Read more

No fewer than 14.2 million Nigerians consumed illicit drugs in 2018, the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disclosed. Chairman of the agency, Col. Mohammad Abdallah (rtd) told reporters in Ilorin, at the sideline of sent forth ceremony organised for the retiring commander of Kwara state command, Ona Ogilegwe. Mr Awe Adegoke, a medical officer from the Department of Dermatology, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, Osun, has advised youths in particular and the general public to always donate blood to save lives. Adegoke said that blood donation was voluntary in a press statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday. US army vehicle damaged in mine explosion in Niger (Guardian)

A US army vehicle was damaged in a mine explosion in western Niger, but there were no fatalities, and the US military was investigating whether the incident was hostile, embassy and local security forces said on Sunday.
