Man arrested for impersonating Lagos neighbourhood safety corps operative (Punch)

Men of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps have arrested a 35-year-old suspect, Mevo Alex Sunday, for impersonation.

This was made known in a statement Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency on its Website on Wednesday.

According to the statement released by the Agency, Sunday claimed that he purchased the uniform from an unknown LNSA officer, Mr. Femi, in November last year for N25,000. Read more

Police arrest 90 suspects in Lagos midnight raid (Punch)

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad have arrested 90 male suspects during a raid on suspected criminals in the late hours of Tuesday.

The operation, which was done in collaboration with Area A Command, targeted notorious hotspots in Obalende, Adeniji, and Lagos Island areas of the state.

The RRS disclosed this in a statement on Facebook on Wednesday. Read more

NDLEA arrests wanted Lagos drug baron (Punch)

The  National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Wednesday said its operatives have arrested the leader of Mushin, Lagos drug cartel identified as Sulaiman Jimoh aka Temo.

The agency stated that Temo, who had been on its wanted list, had been evading arrest until he was eventually nabbed.

His arrest comes after a drug baron, identified as Joachin Mbonu, was arrested in his mansion in Imo State on July 12 after fleeing from South Africa. Read more 

2 restaurant attendants arraigned for stealing laptops in Lagos (Punch)

Two restaurant attendants, Armstrong George, 24 and Osinachi Edwin, 21, were on Tuesday arraigned before the Ebute-Metta Magistrate Court, in Lagos State for allegedly stealing laptops worth N670,000, from their employer.

The duo are facing two counts bordering on conspiracy and stealing preferred against them by the police.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offences at about 11 pm, on July 21, 2024. Read more

Fake kidnap: Appeal Court affirms dethroned Magodo monarch’s jail term (Punch)

The Court of Appeal Lagos Division on Monday affirmed the sentence of the dethroned Baale of Shangisha in Magodo, Lagos State, Mutiu Ogundare, for faking his abduction.

Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Lagos State High in Ikeja had on September 27, 2022, sentenced the convict to 15 years imprisonment.

Dissatisfied with the judgment, Ogundare approached the court to challenge the decision of the lower court which sentenced him to 15 years imprisonment.

Police uncover fake sachet water company in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has busted a fake sachet water-producing company at Oluwole Market in the Apapa area of the state.

The suspects were said to be fraudulently using another company’s brand name to sell their products.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who disclosed this in a post on his X.com handle said the perpetrators also duplicated the NAFDAC number of the company. Read more

Artisan bags life jail for defiling 13-year-old house help (Punch)

Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, on Monday, convicted and sentenced an artisan, Peter Odu, to life imprisonment for the defilement of a 13-year-old housemaid.

The judge held that the prosecution proved the case of defilement beyond reasonable doubt.

He also added that he held the prosecution’s comments and the impact of the convict’s actions on the young victim. Read more

Immigration officer, 3 others arraigned for drug trafficking (Punch)

The National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency on Monday arraigned a senior immigration officer, Gbenga Akomolafe, before the Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly trafficking eight kilograms of Methamphetamine and 7.60 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, also known as marijuana.

Akomolafe, who is currently serving at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Ikeja Lagos, was arraigned alongside Babatunde  Olufemi, said to be a staff member of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Nwadozie Amaechi and Nwosu  Cyril.

The defendants who are facing nine counts bordering on conspiracy, unlawful possession, import and dealing in the prohibited substances, were arraigned before Justice Daniel Osiagor. Read more

Appeal Court affirms death penalty on Dane for killing wife, daughter (Punch)

The Appeal Court Lagos Division has dismissed the appeal of a Denmark national, Peter Nielsen, who was sentenced to death for killing his Nigerian wife, Zainab and daughter, Petra Nielsen.

The appellate court upheld the conviction of Nielsen by the trial court and dismissed his appeal for lack of merit.

When the case was called on Friday, Mr Adebayo Haroun, leading Jubril Kareem, announced his appearance for the respondent, while Mr A.D Taiwo Nsirim with Tochukwu Amaefule, appeared for the appellant. Read more

26-year-old pleads guilty to cable wire theft charge (Punch)

A 26-year-old man, Akande Lekan, was, on Friday, arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command for the alleged theft of cable wire valued at N200,000.

He was arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court, Yaba, before Magistrate O.Y. Adefope who charged the defendant with two counts of theft.

The charges alleged that the defendant stole earth cable wire valued at N200,000, property of Vita Construction Limited, on July 14, 2024. Read more

Police launch manhunt for fleeing Lagos kidnap suspects (Punch)

The police in Lagos State have continued to be on the trail of fleeing members of a notorious kidnapping gang who had plotted to abduct some wealthy persons in the state.

Nine members of the gang were killed during an operation that took place on Thursday,  July 9, in the Ladipo area of the state.

A source had told City Round that some shootings took place at Oloje Street, Papa Ajao, area of Mushin, on Thursday night which they thought was cult-related.

Lagos police receive test results of teenager allegedly raped by officer (Punch)

The medical examination conducted on the 17-year-old girl allegedly raped by a police officer at the Area H Command in the Ogudu area of the state has been concluded.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to PUNCH Online on Friday.

Police hunt man who killed apprentice with shovel (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a middle-aged man identified simply Olumide after he allegedly beat his apprentice, Adeyemi, to death in the Alagbado area of the state.

Olumide was said to have hit the 19-year-old deceased with a shovel on the head while punishing him for an offence.

Adeyemi however succumbed to the injury sustained from the impact of the shovel attack. Read more

Vigilante killed for stopping scavengers of contaminated frozen turkeys in Lagos (Punch)

The Police Command in Lagos State says it has arrested two suspected hoodlums over the death of a vigilante member in the Epe area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday.

Family of slain 26-year-old man fears cover-up, seeks IG’s intervention (Punch)

The family of Felix Nnadozie Jr., who was allegedly fatally beaten by six men in the Sibiri Ojo area of Lagos State, is urging the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene and ensure the perpetrators are held accountable.

Following a fight between Felix’s mother and her female neighbour, our correspondent learnt from the bereaved family that the deceased was allegedly gang-beaten with planks and stones by the six suspects on July 3, which ultimately led to his death on July 6, 2024.

They informed our correspondent that while the six male suspects were beating Felix on the head with planks and stones, the three children of the neighbour, who allegedly encouraged the attack, closed the house’s gate to prevent others from entering the compound. Read more

Three men Oto-Obong Enefiok, Emmanuel Henshaw and Nasiru Saliu, were on Wednesday arraigned before the Ebute-Metta Magistrate Court, in Lagos for allegedly stealing N46.5m, from a company.

Enefiok 49, Henshaw 47 and Saliu 58, were arraigned before Magistrate Mrs Folarin Williams.

How residents foiled Lagos bizman’s abduction in pharmacy – Manager (Punch)

The Manager of Navo Pharmacy on Ogundele Street, Oko Oba, Orile Agege area of Lagos State has recounted the moment residents prevented some gunmen from abducting his boss at the store on Monday night.

PUNCH Metro gathered that there was pandemonium in the area when four gun and cutlass-wielding men, after robbing the store, also attempted to abduct the owner, identified as Samuel Oshanugor, in his car.

A resident in the area, James Alade, who witnessed the attack, told our correspondent that the culprits came on bikes, gained access to the pharmacy around 10 pm and forcefully took cash and phones. Read more

Policeman accused of defiling Lagos teenager being monitored – DSVA (Punch)

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has assured that it is monitoring the case of the police officer who allegedly defiled a 17-year-old girl.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim alleged that she was raped inside the Ogudu Police Station in the Ojota area of the state, after the officer had promised to help retrieve her phone, which had been taken by ‘one chance’ robbers on June 16 while she, her grandmother, and her siblings were returning from Ikeja.

The mother of the victim, Aramide Olupona, on Friday accused the police of trying to bury the case, saying, “The suspect’s wife and the rest of his family have come to my shop to plead with me saying he would soon retire, but what about my daughter who was raped? Is it because I am a poor woman?” Read more

21-year-old remanded for attempted robbery in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a 21-year-old, Collins Ibiang, on Monday, for allegedly attempting armed robbery.

He was arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court, Yaba, before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka.

The defendant was charged with two counts of attempting to commit a felony, with armed robbery and breach of peace. Read more
