Man arrested for allegedly killing ex-girlfriend in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one Fatai Mogaji, for allegedly stabbing to death his ex-girlfriend, Opeyemi Shoyinka, in the Ladegboye area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The suspect was apprehended at a bar after he absconded for three weeks.

PUNCH Metro learnt on Tuesday in a post made by the sister of the deceased on X.com that Fatai had been apprehended at the F1 Bar in Ikorodu by the friends and well-wishers of the deceased and had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba. 54-year-old man arraigned for assaulting Eko Disco worker (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command arraigned a 54-year-old man, Olajide Aro, on Tuesday, for allegedly assaulting an Eko Electricity Distribution company worker.

The defendant was arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court, Yaba, before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka and charged with four counts of assault, breach of peace, obstruction of legitimate duties, and causing physical injuries.

The charges alleged that the defendant, on July 18, 2024, assaulted one Adeniyi Mathew, a staff member of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, while he was trying to perform his legitimate duties. Read more

Court orders Lagos to probe killing of journalist during #EndSars (Punch)

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the Lagos State Government to conduct a thorough investigation into the death of Pelumi Onifade, a 20-year-old reporter who was arrested by the police during the #EndSARS protests in 2020 and later found dead in a mortuary.

The court also directed the government to conduct a coroner’s inquest to determine the cause of death and identify those responsible for the journalist’s demise.

In a statement by the Communications Officer, Media Rights Agenda, Idowu Adewale, the judgment was delivered by Justice Ayokunle Olayinka Faji in a suit filed by the MRA against the police and the state government. Read more

The Lagos State Police Command, on Monday, arraigned a 33-year-old marketer, Adewale Odegbesan, for allegedly stealing products worth N4m.

He was arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court, Yaba, before Magistrate O.Y. Adefope with the defendant charged with three counts of conspiracy to steal and theft.

The charges alleged that the defendant committed the offences between June 2023 and February 2024 at the Betty Distribution Company, Drop Point, Ajangbadi, Lagos, and conspired to steal products worth N4,431,300. Read more

Lagos chief’s murder: DPP indicts police inspector (Punch)

The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions has indicted Inspector Dikko Usman of the Nigeria Police Force and others in the murder of Chief Fatai Jubril, the Baale of Lotu community in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of the state.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered a large cache of weapons in the Mushin area of the state.

According to a statement released by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Thursday, the tactical team responded to a call about armed men on Agoro Street, Mushin, around 1 am.

2 bizmen jailed 14 years for drug importing codeine cough syrup (Punch)

A Federal High Court in Lagos has convicted and sentenced two businessmen, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka and Kingsley Amanambu, to 14 years imprisonment for unlawful importation of 8, 200 kilograms of cough syrup containing codeine.

Justice Akintayo Aluko who sentenced them on Tuesday also ordered that they should forfeit a White Toyota Tacoma V6 with registration number, EKY 883 GK, used in transporting the prohibited drug, to the Federal Government of Nigeria, for being a proceed of crime.

The convicts were sentenced after they pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy, unlawful importation and dealings with the banned drug, preferred against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Read more

30-year-old surety charged with failing to produce suspected thief (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has charged 30-year-old Adebiyi Kayode, who stood as a surety, with allegedly perverting justice by failing to produce the defendant he stood for.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Adebiyi stood as a surety for Sheriff Aminat, a storekeeper at Betty Distribution Company, who was charged with conspiracy to steal and allegedly stealing goods worth over N4m.

A report was made on February 6, 2024, by the Head of Human Resources at Betty Distribution Company regarding the alleged theft, which was discovered during the yearly audit.

The audit revealed that goods worth over N4m were missing, and the money was not remitted to the company’s account. Read more

Driver arraigned for allegedly stealing employer’s N22m (Punch)

A 33-year-old driver, Oluwatosin Eko, was on Tuesday, arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate Court, in Lagos, sitting at Ebute-Metta, for allegedly stealing N22,280,000, from his employer.

Eko was arraigned on two counts bordering on conspiracy, and stealing preferred against him, by the police.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendant and others now at large conspired amongst themselves to commit the alleged theft. Read more
