Man caught trying to rob Lagos church (Punch)

A 35-year-old man, Tope Akinusi, was on Monday remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre by an Ikeja Magistrates’ court sitting at the Ogba area of Lagos State, for allegedly attempting to steal from a church, Gospel Faith Mission International Church, in the Ayobo area of the state.

The Magistrate, Mrs L. A Owolabi, made the remand order after the defendant who is facing two-count bordering on an attempt to commit felony to with stealing preferred against him by the police was arraigned.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Adeyemo Joseph, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 10, 2023. Read more

#EndSARS: Court orders Lagos govt to pay assaulted Uber driver N5m (Punch)

Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on Tuesday, ordered the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police to pay an Uber driver, Adedotun Clement, the sum of N5 million as compensation.

Clement was allegedly assaulted by officials of the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency and the Nigeria Police Force during the first anniversary of #EndSARS on October 20, 2021, at the Lekki Toll-Gate while he was carrying a passenger from the Island to the Mainland and was intercepted by the officials.

Following the pandemonium that ensued after policemen and the officers of the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency fired tear-gas canisters to disperse the peaceful protesters and arrested many of them, Clement temporarily abandoned his car like other motorists and ran for his life. Read more

Lagos police arrest car snatcher, recover vehicles (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a car snatcher in the Ojodu-Berger area of the state and recovered two vehicles in his possession.

The 36-year-old suspect, Dayo Jimoh, was said to have hijacked two vehicles at gunpoint last Saturday along with two others who are currently at large.

The police made this known in a statement, on Tuesday, signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin. Read more

Lagos cashier flees during N11k fraud trial, mum remanded (Punch)

Controversy has been trailing the disappearance of a cashier of the Eat ‘N’ Go Limited, operating at the company’s Coldstone Creamery branch in Abule Ado, Moses Ojo, during his arraignment by the Lagos State Police Command at a Magistrate’s Court sitting in the Apapa area of the state.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the company suspected that its workers had been carrying out fraudulent transactions by using their accounts to trade with customers.

In a bid to trace those involved in the fraudulent transactions, it was learnt that the company reported the case to the police and during the investigation, the police arrested Ojo. Read more

Father rapes 18-year-old daughter in shop (Punch)

An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting at Ogba, Lagos State, has remanded a 36-year-old man, Roland Okajere, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly raping his 18-year-old daughter inside his shop in the Ikotun area of the state.

The Magistrate, Mr L. A Owolabi gave the order after the defendant who is facing a charge bordering on rape preferred against him by the police was arraigned on Monday.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Esther Igbineweka, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 4, 2023. Read more

Son in court for attempting to kill father over money (Punch)

An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting at Ogba, Lagos State, has remanded a 36-year-old man, Innocent Osanebi, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly threatening to use a knife to kill his father, Francis Isekwene, in the Ojodu Berger area of the state.

The magistrate, Mrs L.A Owolabi, gave the order after the defendant who is facing a charge bordering on causing a breach of peace preferred against him by the police was arraigned on Monday.

The police Inspector, Mary Adiguje, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 1, 2023, adding that Innocent, while allegedly acting under the influence of a hard drug suspected to be Indian hemp, in an attempt to extort money from his father, used a knife to threaten to kill him. Lagos guard steals boss phone, pleads guilty (Punch)

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, has ordered the remand of a former security staff member of the Panda Event Complex, Moses Adeniyi, for stealing the phone of his boss, Ifeanyi Okafor, at their office in the Sabo, Yaba area of the state.

It was learnt that a case of a missing phone was reported to the Lagos State Police Command who arrested and arraigned the suspect before Magistrate P.E Nwaka on two counts of theft.

 The police prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that the offences were contrary to Section 280(1) and punishable under Sections 168(d), 287(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015. Read more

Man remanded for firearms possession (Punch)

A 37-year-old man, Shina Akanbi, has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, for unlawful possession of firearms during the presidential and National Assembly elections in the Aguda area of Lagos State.

Akanbi, who appeared before Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun, is facing a one- count bordering on unlawful possession of firearms and disorderly conduct during the elections.

The police prosecutor, Rita Momoh, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 25, 2023. Read more

Police arraigns Lagos businessman for N950m fraud (ThisDay)

The Nigeria Police has arraigned a businessman, Olusegun Ogunbanjo, who allegedly defrauded two men to the tune of N950 million, before a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The Defendant was arraigned on a three-count charge, which borders on false pretences, forgery and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Rita Momah, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, told the court that the Defendant committed the offences between January 2017 and December 2022, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. Momah submitted that the Defendant obtained N450 million from one Mr Olusola lkuyajesin, and N500 million from one Mr Durodola Balogun, under false pretences of using the money to buy stationery.

She added that the Defendant forged an organisation’s Local Purchase Orders to carry out the acts, in contravention of Sections 287, 314 and 365 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State. Read more

Police confirm arrest of security guard over housemaid’s death (Vanguard)

The police command in Lagos State has confirmed the arrest of a 24-year old security guard, Barnabas Job, over alleged murder of a 26-year old housemaid, Miss Tereza Ekibi.

The command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to Newsmen on Sunday.

Hundeyin said the housemaid was allegedly murdered in her bedroom by the suspect at the same house they both worked as guard and maid in the Lekki area of Lagos. Read more

Driver to face prosecution for Lagos BRT bus, train collision (Nation)

The Lagos State Government has said that the driver of the Lagos State owned staff bus that collided with a train last Thursday may be prosecuted.

A statement issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice yesterday said that Mr. Remi Osibanjo, who drove the BRT bus into the moving train at the PWD rail crossing in Ikeja, had been arrested and detained for further investigation.

The State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), said in a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Grace Alo, that the staff bus driver was already being investigated by the Railway Police Command Headquarters, Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Lagos police commence probe of death of 2 siblings (Guardian)

Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, said it has commenced investigation into circumstances leading to the death of two siblings, Abibu Bello, 17,  Bolaji Bello, 14 and injuring another person at N0 2 Iyewa Street, Isolo, Lagos. 

The siblings died after a woman, Elizabeth Awogbemi, drove her Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) to a building close to where the deceased were seated.

The deceased are children of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Toyin Bayero. Read more
