Man, 45, remanded for impregnating 14-year-old girl, attempting abortion (Punch)
A 45-year-old man, Rufus Olatunji, has been remanded in a custodial centre for allegedly raping and impregnating a 14-year-old girl on the premises of the Royal World Embassy Church, Ipaja, in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Olatunji was alleged to have had unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl for several months before she became pregnant.
The defendant, who was arraigned on Tuesday before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, was also said to have given the minor a concoction in a bid to abort the pregnancy.
He allegedly threatened to deal with the teenager if she did not drink the concoction. Read more
Court remands 2 NSCDC officers for alleged armed robbery (Vanguard)
An Ikeja High Court on Wednesday remanded Amarachukwu Asonta, a 27-year-old female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and her colleague, Adebayo Ajayi, 32, for alleged armed robbery.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Oyindamola Ogala ordered the remand of the duo following their not guilty plea to a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.
The charges were proffered against the duo by the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
According to the Director of the Lagos State DPP, Dr Jide Martins, the NSCDC officers committed the offences at 2.20 a.m. on Jan. 30, 2018, along Yaya Abatan Road, Ogba, Lagos. Read more
Estate consultant explains why he used friend’s name for land deal (Sun)
An attempt by a Lagos-based estate consultant, Mr Sikiru Rasheed, to use the name of one of his friends to ward off land grabbers from a large expanse of land in the Epe area of Lagos State has taken a new turn as a Lagos High Court has ordered for the arrest of the friend.
The estate consultant described the order as a mistaken identity, adding that his (Sikiru) name should have appeared on the order instead of that of his friend.
Sikiru, while speaking with newsmen absolved Alhaji Ganiu Owoeye of any involvement in the land deals and that he only wrote his name on a signboard, which was erected on the land to scare land grabbers .”
A Lagos High Court, sitting in Epe had in an enrollment order dated 7th February 2022, ordered the police to arrest the owner of Rasby Global Concept and added the name of Ganiu Owoeye as the owner of the company. Read more
Man docked for allegedly defrauding 5 parents of WASSCE fees (Nation)
A 47-year-old man, Emmanuel Apeh, was on Wednesday docked before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, for allegedly defrauding five parents of N200,000 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASCCE) fees.
Apeh, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Akpan Nko, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in December 2021, at Newton College, Kilometre 25, Okokomaiko, Badagry Expressway, Lagos.
Nko alleged that the defendant obtained N200,000 as registration fees from five parents under the pretext of wanting to use it to register their children for WASSCE, knowing the claim to be false. Read more
Woman’s trial for laundering drug money resumes after 10 years (Leadership)
Ten years after she was first arraigned, the Federal High Court in Lagos has resumed the hearing of the money laundering allegation against an alleged drug trafficker, Mrs Omolayo Iphigenia Adeniji.
Mrs. Adeniji was accused by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) of laundering drug money for her husband, who is currently serving a jail-term in the United Kingdom, for drug trafficking.
Her trial eventually commenced last Thursday before the court presided over by Justice PeLifeOdo Lifu.
At the resumed trial of the defendant before Justice Peter Lifu, the prosecutor, Mrs Obiageli Nwachukwu, called the first prosecution witness, Richard Jiang, an NDLEA operative who narrated how his boss asked him to take the defendant’s statement. Read more

An Igando Customary Court in Lagos, Lagos State, has dissolved a 23-year-old marriage between a clergy, Dele Adewale, and his wife, Favour, over irreconcilable differences.
The court president, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, who granted Adewale’s request of divorce, held that it was imperative he did so due to lack of compatibility.
“The court has come to the conclusion that the marriage between the couple had broken down irretrievably, therefore, the dissolution of their marriage is needful.“It is proper for both parties to go their separate ways since they are tired of their marriage while all efforts to reconcile them failed.
