A businessman, Nura Ashiru, on Monday, demanded N1.5 million from his divorce-seeking wife Zainab Bello, in a Shari’a court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna.
Ashiru made his demands after his wife prayed the court to dissolve their union through Khul’i, a situation where a wife returns the dowry she received to redeem herself from the marriage.
”My wife caused me great loss. She destroyed my phone and took some of my belongings, a situation which led me into depression,” he said. Read more

Lagos NMA demands better deal for medical personnel (Guardian)
Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has deplored the government’s poor disposition to shortage of doctors and dental practitioners in the state.
Its Chairman, Dr Benjamin Olowojebutu, who spoke in Lagos, equally lamented alleged poor working environment and non-provision of medical insurance amid increasing population. He accused the government of shirking its primary duties to the health sector.
Olowojebutu noted that many doctors died prematurely under cruel conditions. Citing a recent loss of a medical officer at a Lagos General Hospital, Dr Vwaere Diaso, to an elevator mishap, the NMA chief urged medical personnel to reject any attempt to contemptuously treat them like ‘experimental laboratory rats’. The peace in Rivers State was ruptured yesterday following alleged moves by the House of assembly to commence impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The political crisis is believed to be a fallout of a soured relationship between the governor and his political godfather, Mr. Nyesom Wike, immediate-past governor and now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The drama began when security agents took over the Assembly complex following a fire outbreak at the chamber around 10:30pm on Sunday. In spite of the heavy security presence, lawmakers yesterday morning converged for an emergency sitting at the House auditorium where they impeached the Majority Leader of the House, Edison Ehie, to apparently pave the way for the impeachment proceedings against the governor. Ekiti approves treatment of gunshot victims (ThisDay)
The Ekiti State Government has directed hospitals and medical facilities in the state to save the lives of victims of gunshots by treating them first even without a police report.
This was contained in a statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti by the state Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, and made available to THISDAY in Ado Ekiti yesterday.
He explained that the directive followed the approval of the Inspector General of Police (IG) to comply with and enforce the provisions of the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act of 2017 without any hesitation. Read more

They gave this admonition at the advocacy program themed, “Building Collapse and Application of Punitive Laws in Lagos State,” organised by the Building Collapse Prevention Guild, Ikeja Cell, and the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja branch, which was held in Lagos State recently.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned as “cruel propaganda” a video released by Hamas showing Israeli hostages taken during the 7 October attacks.
The clip, released on Monday, shows three Israeli women, one of whom berates Mr Netanyahu and calls for the release of the hostages.
Hamas seized at least 230 hostages in the attacks and at least 1,400 Israelis were killed.

Colombian police expand search for Luis Diaz’s missing father (ESPN)
Police air and land patrols searched a cloud forest in northern Colombia on Monday for Liverpool star Luis Díaz’s father, who was kidnapped over the weekend along with the player’s mother.
The couple were at a gas station in the small town of Barrancas on Saturday when they were abducted by armed men on motorcycles. Diaz’s mother, Cilenis Marulanda, was rescued within hours by police that set up roadblocks around the town of 40,000 people, which is near Colombia’s border with Venezuela.
But his father, Luis Manuel Díaz, remained missing. On Monday, special forces searched a mountain range that straddles both countries and is covered by cloud forest. Police also offered a $48,0000 reward for information leading to Diaz’s father. Read more

Eddie Jones: Australia head coach resigns following early Rugby World Cup exit (BBC)
Eddie Jones has stepped down from his position as head coach of Australia.
The Wallabies exited the recent Rugby World Cup in the pool stage – the first time in the tournament’s history they failed to reach the knockout stage.
Jones, who began a second spell in charge of the team in January, will officially step down on 25 November.
In a statement, Rugby Australia thanked Jones, 63, for his “commitment to the Wallabies in 2023” and wished him “the best in his future endeavours”. Read more
