Man in court for allegedly stealing truck tyre, valuables

A 22-year old man, Ashiru Abdulhamidu, was on Wednesday docked in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing truck tyre worth N55,000, phone and N35,000 cash.

The Police arraigned Abdulhamidu on a count charge of stealing.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Insp Felicia Okwori, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 11, at about 5:00 p.m., at Abbatoir Motor Park, Oko-Oba, Agege, within the state.

Okwori said that the defendant stole the tyre valued, Itel phone and cash belonging to Mr Mujeeb Alabede, the complainant.

She explained that the defendant opened the door of the truck, stole the items took to his heels while people around the area chased him until he was caught and handed to the police.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 provides for three years imprisonment for such offenders.

The Magistrate, Mrs B. A Mogaji, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until June 27 for mention. (NAN)
