Husband kills wife over cooking argument in Lagos (Punch)

A yet-to-be identified husband allegedly murdered his wife in the Olota area of the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos over her failure to cook his meal last Thursday.

PUNCH Metro learnt that trouble started when the husband, who was said to have returned from work, discovered that the wife only prepared noodles rather than his favourite meal.

Consequently, PUNCH Metro gathered from an eyewitness who did not want to be mentioned in the media because of fear of intimidation that the suspect left the deceased in the house after he had allegedly hit her on the crown of her head with what was believed to be a heavy object and beaten her to a pulp. Carpenter, husband remanded for alleged murder (Punch)

A 54-year-old carpenter, Awele Ukpor, has been remanded for allegedly killing a young woman, Joy Onyekachi, whom he met at a restaurant in the Ajangbadi area of Lagos State on November 19, 2023.

It was gathered in court on Monday that Ukpor met Onyekachi in a bar he visited in the area and they engaged in a conversation.

Our correspondent further gathered that during their conversation, Onyekachi told Ukpor that she had lost her job and he offered to take her home and afterwards pay her N60,000 to start up something. Read more

LASTMA impounds 78 trucks for indiscriminate parking (Punch)

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, in an enforcement operation that started on Sunday, has impounded 78 trucks for indiscriminate parking in the Apapa-Ijora area of the state.

This was disclosed in a statement sent to PUNCH Metro by the Public Relations Officer, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, on Sunday.

According to the statement, the vehicles were impounded by LASTMA officers in conjunction with relevant security agencies to ensure smooth and seamless traffic for Lagosians during this festive season and beyond. Read more

NDLEA seizes convicted Lagos baron’s mansion, nabs grandma (Punch)

A multi-million-naira mansion located at K-5A/2 Road 14, Victoria Garden City estate, Lekki area of Lagos used as a clandestine laboratory for the production of methamphetamine by a convicted drug baron, Okenwa Nzewi, has been forfeited to the Federal Government following his successful prosecution and conviction in court by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The NDLEA in a statement by its spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday said Okenwa was arrested alongside his associate, Sunny Okeh, on July 30, 2022 and subsequently arraigned on four counts in charge number FHC/L/527C/2022 at the Federal High Court, Lagos. Read more

Man arraigned for stealing tricycles, phones in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned a man named Azeez Jimoh for allegedly stealing two tricycles and a Tecno phone all valued at N3.5m in the Makoko area of the state.

The 24-year-old man was arraigned before Magistrate O. Y Adefope sitting before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court on two counts bordering on stealing.

The defendant was accused of stealing two TVS tricycles with registration numbers, FKJ291QN and KRD719QM, valued at N1.8m each, properties of one Mr Adimu Oluwaseun; and two Tecno phones valued at N120,000, property of one Ogundola, all valued at N3.720.000. Read more

Navy intercepts 12 stowaways, 2 repeat offenders on tanker in Lagos (Leadership)

The Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft’s patrol team successfully intercepted 14 stowaways aboard the Motor Tanker UOG CONSTANTINE at the Lagos Roadstead.

Disturbingly, two of the individuals, Osas Nusakare and Okechi Chika, were arrested for a similar offense just a month ago.

According to a press release by Sub Lieutenant Happiness Collins, the Base Information Officer, the interception was part of the Nigerian Navy’s ongoing efforts to ensure the security of the country’s maritime domain. Read more

Police allegedly brutalise, detain Lagos resident for questioning car seizure (Leadership)

A Lagos resident, Dauda Jimoh, has accused officers of the Nigerian Police Force of brutality and unwarranted detention after questioning the “illegal detention” of his friend’s car. The incident purportedly transpired on Friday, December 15th, at Saint Paul Street in Lagos State.

According to Jimoh’s account shared with Sahara Reporters, officers from the Makinde Police Station stopped his friend’s car without providing any apparent reason and confiscated the car keys. Jimoh and others intervened to inquire about the situation.

However, Jimoh claimed that rather than address their concerns, the officers alleged his approach was disrespectful and proceeded to physically assault him. He detailed that the situation quickly escalated, leading to his detention for about an hour.

Navy hands over N17.6m seized cannabis sativa to NDLEA (Leadership)

The Forward Operating Base (FOB) of the Nigerian Navy, Badagry, Lagos, has handed over 11 sacks of cannabis sativa valued at N17.6 million to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Badagry.

Navy Capt. Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, the FOB Commanding Officer, reported that the suspected cannabis sativa was seized on December 15 at a yard close to Apa community, Badagry.

Represented by Lt. EU Okorie, the Base Intelligence Officer, Adams-Aliu mentioned that the FOB acted on intelligence regarding suspected smuggling activities within its operational area. Read more 

Police arrest mechanic for absconding with customer’s vehicle in Lagos (Tribune)

A mechanic, 25, identified as Adedamola Oluwaseyi has been arrested by Lagos Police Command for allegedly absconding with a customer’s vehicle and selling it in parts.

This was confirmed in a statement signed Monday by the image maker in charge of the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin.

“Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 25-year-old mechanic, Adedamola Oluwaseyi ‘m’, in Ladipo, Mushin while stripping and selling off a customer’s car in parts. Read more

Court frees 4 men after 8 years of incarceration in sexual assault case (Independent)

A Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos State has acquitted and discharged four men who have been incarcerated for eight years after being charged with sexual assault and defilement of two female children in 2015. 

The trial judge, Justice Rahman Oshodi, on Tuesday, acquitted the defendants after he found that the prosecution did not sufficiently prove the three-count charge of sexual assault by penetration and defilement against the four men. 

Justice Oshodi gave judgment in favour of the first to the fourth defendants, namely Ojo Taiye, John Mahason, Peter Arabo and Adenekan Adedeji, who were all arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on November 9, 2015. Read more
