Lagos to prosecute man who assaulted LASTMA official (Guardian)
Lagos State Government said it will prosecute a man named Emmanuel Ben who led an assault on an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Ismaila Lukman.
LASTMA general manager Olajide Oduyoye in a statement said Lagos State attorney-general Moyosore Onigbanjo has directed Ben’s prosecution for assaulting Lukman “at the Jakande Junction in Lekki while on his lawful duty around 2:20 pm on Sunday 8th November 2020.”
He said Ben will “be made to face the full wrath of the law for the assault to serve as deterrent to others with similar motives.”
Oduyoye explained that Lukman was controlling traffic manually at Jakande Junction when Ben approached him asking that traffic be stopped for him to cross even with the presence of pedestrian bridge nearby. Read more
Domestic servants docked over alleged theft of employer’s N1.5m property (Vanguard)
Two domestic servants, Abolade Bolarinwa, 37 and Fadeke Jejelowo, 49, on Monday, appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged theft of property valued N1.5 million and causing damages.
The duo allegedly conspired against their employer, Mrs Bukola Bolarinwa, to steal her property worth N1.5 million and causing damages.
Bolarinwa and Jejelowo, whose residential addresses were not given, are standing trial on a-three count charge of conspiracy, stealing and causing damage.
They both, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 16, at Onabadejo St. Ikosi-Ketu Lagos. Read more
Residents scoop fuel as petrol tanker falls in Lagos (Punch)
A tanker laden with 33,000 litres of petrol overturned around the Festac Link Bridge while conveying the content to a destination in Lagos State on Sunday.
After the accident, petrol spilt rapidly on the road and residents were seen using buckets and kegs to scoop the content.
The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the trans-loading of the remaining petrol was ongoing, adding that emergency responders were on the ground to prevent a secondary incident.
He said, “The Agency responded to distress calls around 6 am and arrived to find an overturned tanker with its contents, 33,000 litres of petrol rapidly spilling due to the effect of gravity on the overturned tanker. Read more
Lagos govt orders release of 253 #EndSARS protesters (Guardian)
Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), Lagos State Attorney-General (A-G), has ordered the release of 253 persons arrested by police over their alleged roles in the unrest following the #EndSARS protests.
The A-G said the in a statement that his office had determined that there was a nondisclosure of a prima-facie case against the 253 persons by the police.
The statement, signed by Mr Kayode Oyekanmi, Director of Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Justice and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday, said 92 persons would, however, be prosecuted. Read more

For failure to establish a prima facie case against 253 persons arrested in connection with the criminality that followed the EndSARS protests, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of Lagos State, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), has directed the police to immediately release them.
He explained yesterday that between November 4 and 5, 2020, the police had forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) 40 case files in respect of 361 persons arrested for criminal offences in connection with the protests for legal advice.
According to a statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Kayode Oyekanmi, the legal advice has been issued in respect of the 40 case files received. Read more
