Lagos PDP describes defection of guber aspirant as political suicide (Independent)

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the defection of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, one of the gubernatorial aspirants in the last primary elections as political career suicide.

The statement reads in part, “It is our party’s wish that MR Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour would realise that moving from a solid party like PDP to a yet fickle opposition party like Labour Party is a political career suicide and a limitation to the experience and knowledge of his person in politics.

“The fact that our party, the PDP remains a very solid political party in Lagos state with an adequately maintained structure, spread and capable people to unseat the ruling All Progressives  Congress (APC) and give the Lagos people the succour and the dividends of democratic governance they have yearned for over the years. Victory also gives you an advantage in the boardroom, says Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr.

“It impacts your ability to attract attention, thereby getting you better deals, better contracts,” he told Billboard earlier this year.

But the halo effect doesn’t end there. Read more

Actors’ Equity says it will place Broadway producer Garth Drabinsky on its “Do Not Work” list just as soon as his financially troubled musical Paradise Square ends its run with a matinee on Sunday at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.

“The company of Paradise Square has expressed their commitment to this show and want to continue to tell this story through its planned closing on July 17,” Equity said in a statement. “However, Garth Drabinsky has made it clear that he is unable to uphold the terms of a union contract, so Equity intends to add him to our Do Not Work list immediately afterwards.”

The musical, which marked Drabinsky’s Broadway return, won a Tony for lead actress Joaquina Kalukango but failed to catch on at the box office. For the week ending July 10, it only played to half-capacity. Read more
