Man stabs guard to death during argument in Lagos (Punch)

A 25-year-old security guard, identified simply as Solomon, has lost his life after being stabbed to death at Langbasa in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident occurred on Sunday evening.

It was gathered that the deceased left his duty post and stepped out to discuss with some friends on the street where he lived. Read more

Court remands suspected killers of senator’s aide (Punch)

A Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ogba, on Wednesday ordered the remand of three suspects who allegedly murdered Adeniyi Sanni, an aide to Senator Solomon Adeola, also known as Yayi, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for the next 30 days.

The defendants are Fred Azeez Okuno, a 43-year-old resident of Lagos; Lucky Idudu Michael, a 33-year-old from Delta State; and Adedigba Segun, a 26-year-old from Ibadan, Oyo State.

They were alleged to have committed the offence on August 5, 2023, at a checkpoint in Ojodu Berger around midnight. Read more

Lagos driver jailed 14 years for attempted robbery (Punch)

An Ikeja High Court, on Monday, pronounced a 14-year prison term for Sulaiman Olabode, a 36-year-old driver, convicted of attempted robbery.

The verdict came from Justice O.A. Ogala, who delivered judgment on an amended charge of attempted robbery following a plea bargain application.

Initially pleading not guilty to a count of armed robbery during the first arraignment, Olabode opted for a plea bargain agreement as the trial progressed. Read more

EFCC arraigns couple for alleged money laundering, forgery (Nation)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday arraigned a couple, Ruth and Oriyomi Idowu, for alleged money laundering and forgery.

The couple were arraigned alongside firms belonging to Ruth, which are the third to the sixth defendants: Food Commodity Processing Enterprise, Bonway Food Processing Company Ltd., Samee Idowu Company Ltd. and Farmex Integrated Companies Ltd. 

They were charged with 20-counts bordering on obtaining money by false pretence, money laundering, stealing, retention of stolen property and forgery, before an Ikeja Special Offences Court. Read more

Sales rep docked for allegedly stealing employer’s N7.8m (Nation)

A 32-year-old former sales representative, Bashiru Olatunji, was on Monday dragged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for alleged theft.

The defendant is standing trial before Magistrate E. Kubeinje, on a one-count charge of stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between January and November at Kosoko Street, Ojodu Berger, Lagos State. Read more

NDLEA arraigns 10 crew members, vessel over alleged smuggling (Nation)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) yesterday arraigned a vessel, MV Cooper Island, its owner and 10 crew members, at a Federal High Court in Lagos for unlawful importation of 24 kilograms of cocaine.

Oleksii, Enesa Julio (Jnr) Pedrogosa, Nonan Ulysses Doria, Torino Jhundhel Adang, Alado Elpe De Pedro, Empedrado Ryan De Jesus, Liquit Niel Morris Auxtero, Akulov Oleg, Frugalidad Francis Cabaluna and Duran Niel Stephen Dias, who are said to be Ukrainians and Estonians.

The vessel and the defendants, according to the prosecutor, Mrs. Josephine Obi, leading Mr. Ralph Himinkaiye and Abu Ibrahim, were arrested on July 6, at Josepdam Port berthing Point, Tin Can Island Port, Apapa, Lagos. Read more 

65-year-old landlord gets life for sexually assaulting tenant’s daughters (Nation)

A65-year-old man, Igwe Ambrose, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling two minors, aged seven and 11 years, who are daughters of his tenant, by inserting his fingers into their private parts.

Justice Abiola Soladoye of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court yesterday sentenced  the convict to double life imprisonment on the four-count charge bordering on sexual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child, brought against him by the Lagos State Government.

The offences were committed between January and June 2021 at Shagari Estate, Ipaja, Lagos. Read more 

Alleged failed surgery: Court to deliver judgment in case against Lagos surgeon Jan. 23 (Nation)

A Federal High Court in Lagos will give judgment on January 23 in a case of alleged failed surgery filed against a Lagos surgeon, Anuoluwapo Adepoju.

The case was earlier scheduled for adoption of addresses yesterday, but the court did not sit.

Man, 41 in court for alleged reckless driving, causing death (Guardian)

A 41-year-old man, Stephen Ihyom, has appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged reckless driving and causing death.

The defendant is standing trial before magistrate L. K. J. Layeni on a three-count charge bordering on dangerous driving on a restricted highway and causing death.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Dr Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 1 on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Read more

Landlord’s son stabs tenant to death over parking space (Vanguard)

A 36-year- old mini bus driver, Shonibare Oluwasegun , has allegedly been stabbed to death by his landlord’s son, during an argument over parking space, in the Ajah area of Lagos. 

Eye witnesses said that the father of three returned home Sunday night, November 19,2023 , parked his mini bus otherwise called korope in front of his compound on number 24,Adewunmi Close, Ilaje Ajah.

Barely had he retired to bed than his landlord’s son identified as Taiye Adebayo, reportedly banged on his door, jostling him from sleep. Read more
