The General Manager Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) Mrs. Abiola Kosegbe, has declared a lot of buildings in the state were distressed. She spoke at a stakeholders meeting on collapsed building organised by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) at Alausa on Wednesday. Xenophobia: 187 Nigerians arrive Lagos from South Africa (Punch)
About 187 Nigerians who were evacuated from South Africa have landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos. The evacuees, who departed OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, around 4p.m aboard an Air Peace Boeing 777 aircraft, touched down at 9:34pm on Wednesday. A foreign affairs ministry official, Mr. Kimiebi Ebenfa, who was on board the flight, confirmed their arrival. Read more
Buhari reacts to tribunal judgement (Guardian)
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday said the ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on the February 23, 2019 poll, is victory for Nigerians that elected him for a second term in office. “Good conscience fears no evil report,” Buhari said in a statement by presidential spokesman Femi Adesina. The Nigerian president said he was not disturbed during the entire period of the tribunal proceedings because he knew Nigerians voted him in freely. Read more

The Coalition of the United Political Parties on Wednesday said it received with angst the judgment of the Presidential Election Tribunal which upheld President Muhammadu Buhari’s election. The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the killing of one man and abduction of two children of the Chairman of Matazu Local Government Council in Katsina State by bandits. The incident is a major dent on current peace efforts initiated by Gov. Aminu Masari with bandits operating mostly in eight local government areas in the state. Armed bandits have attacked three communities in Rafi local government area of Niger State in a renewed attack in the state. The communities attacked by the bandits include Rafin-wayam, Rafin-kwakwa and Gidan Dogo-Gurgu villages. This is bringing the number of communities attacked in Niger to four in the past one week. A three-storey building on Wednesday collapsed in Onitsha, Anambra State after a downpour in the area. The prison wall of the Onitsha prisons also suffered a similar fate. APC condoles varsity community on death of kidnapped professor (Guardian)
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ondo State chapter, has expressed shock on the killing of Prof. Gideon Okedayo, describing the murder as wicked and inhumane. Okedayo, a lecturer at the Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa (OSUSTECH), was kidnapped on Sept. 5 in Edo State on his way to Igara, his home town. Bahamas emergency services have listed 2,500 people as missing after Hurricane Dorian struck the islands last week. This official count suggests the death toll will be much higher than the current 50, though the number of missing has yet to be checked against those in shelters and should fall. A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a baby boy who was thrown into a river. Emergency services were called to the River Irwell in Greater Manchester shortly before 4.25pm on Wednesday, following reports that an infant had been thrown from a bridge. Trump plans ban on sale of flavoured e-cigarettes (BBC)
US President Donald Trump has announced that his administration will ban flavoured e-cigarettes, after a spate of vaping-related deaths. Mr Trump told reporters vaping was a “new problem”, especially for children. A ‘dangerous and violent’ man who threatened to set his girlfriend on fire has escaped court before being sentenced. Adam Bennett, 27, had previously pleaded guilty to controlling behaviour, including locking his partner inside a car and flushing her contraceptive pill down the toilet. He was expected to face jail time, but ran from Liverpool Crown Court after hearing the sentencing guidelines. Read more

A Chinese woman has been found guilty of trespassing at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida and of lying to a federal agent. Yujing Zhang, 33, was arrested in March and was found carrying several electronic devices. She faces up to six years in prison when she is sentenced in November. Read more

California church leaders ‘used homeless as forced labour’ (BBC)
The leaders of a California based-church have been accused of imprisoning homeless people, forcing them to beg all day and taking the money. Dozens of victims had their papers taken, their welfare benefits stolen and were punished if they spoke of “things of the world”, officials say. ‘Psychic’ jailed for stealing $1.6M from woman to remove ‘family curse’ (Metro)
A thief claiming to be a psychic has been jailed for stealing $1.6 million from a woman desperate to get rid of a family curse. Sherry Tina Uwanawich, 29, was sentenced to 40 months in prison last week and has been ordered to pay back the entire $1.6 million in restitution for the ‘fortune telling’ scheme, according to the Department of Justice. Prosecutors said Uwanawich was posing as a psychic in 2007 when she first met her victim, a 27-year-old medical student from Brazil, in Houston, Texas. Read more

A pensioner accused of ‘mercy killing’ her terminally ill husband said he begged her to help end his life. Mavis Eccleston, 80, denies the murder and manslaughter of her husband of almost 60 years, Dennis Eccleston, who died in hospital on February 20, last year. It is alleged retired miner Mr Eccleston, who had bowel cancer, did not know he was being given a ‘potentially lethal’ overdose in the early hours of February 19, at their home in Huntington, near Cannock. Charles Lwanga, 47, told police officers who showed up at his home with a search warrant, ‘I have been expecting you’.
