Marcus Rashford scoops 2 prizes at Manchester United’s end of season awards

Manchester United’s leading goalscorer Marcus Rashford has been named the club’s Players’ Player of the Year and Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year.

Rashford is enjoying a season of redemption at Old Trafford following a difficult year under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

The forward has scored 30 goals in all competitions including 17 in the Premier League as the Reds secured a return to the Champions League next season.

In December, United activated their clause to extend Rashford’s expiring contract until 2024. This week, Erik Ten Hag said he expects his leading goalscorer to sign a new deal soon.

“I expect Marcus Rashford to renew,” Ten Hag told Viaplay. “He wants it. Manchester United wants it. He is a child of this club, so I assume this will happen.”

Men’s Goal of the Season was awarded to Antony for his superb effort against Barcelona in United’s Europa League play-off round triumph.

Meanwhile, Alessia Russo was the big winner for United’s Women as she won Fans’ Player of the Year and Goal of the Season for her strike against Arsenal.

Elsewhere, defender Hannah Blundell would pick up Players’ Player of the Year. For the first time United handed out a new prize, the Ian Stirling Fan Award, in memory of the lifelong supporter Ian Stirling who died at the age of 57 earlier this year.

Announcing the introduction of the award at the end-of-season celebration, chief executive Richard Arnold declared it would be handed out every year from now on to a supporter who has gone above and beyond for the club. This year’s recipient was Stirling. (MEN)
