Maurizio Sarri insists Marcos Alonso is not suffering from fatigue and admits he is reluctant to give Emerson Palmieri his first Premier League appearance of the season ahead of the Spaniard.
Alonso performed poorly in Chelsea’s win over Fulham last weekend and also struggled in the second half of the 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Wednesday evening.
Emerson, meanwhile, has barely featured since he was signed in a £17.6 million deal from Roma in the January transfer window, and has only appeared in the Carabao Cup and the Europa League under Sarri this season.
But Sarri admits swapping Alonso for Emerson at left-back could cause his side ‘problems’ at set-pieces.
Asked if Alonso is suffering from tiredness, Sarri said: ‘I don’t know because in the last period he didn’t play a lot, he wasn’t in the national team in the last international break. Read more
