There was tension in Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West LGA of Edo State when a man identified as Odion allegedly killed his elder brother over family issues bordering on inheritance.

It was gathered that the incident happened at the Iyekhe community in Auchi, when the suspect shot his elder brother identified as Braimah Rasheed.

It was gathered that Odion, who was also killed by a mob, had been threatening to kill his brother following disagreements over family affairs, which had to do with inheritance. Read more

Senate, House opt for joint probe of oil sector (Nation)

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has said probe panels set up by the two Chambers of the National Assembly to investigate alleged economic sabotage in the petroleum sector have resolved to jointly carry out the assignment.

Bamidele, who is the chairman of the Senate Adhoc Committee for the investigation, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja.

New curriculum for schools to take effect in October – Minister (VON)

Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Professor  Mamman Tahir, says the new curriculum for primary and secondary schools with a special focus on skills will take effect in October 2024.

He made this known on Monday while briefing State House Correspondents after the Executive Council meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Prof Tahir, the new curriculum will incorporate knowledge, skills and values, with a special focus on skills, to enable the students to graduate with skills that can properly integrate them with the demands of the economy. Read more

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, on Monday approved the establishment of the National Citizens Value Brigade across primary and secondary schools in Nigeria, to stem declining value and raise role models and ambassadors for the country.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the Council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu, at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Ghana’s police have arrested dozens of people who took to the streets of the capital to demonstrate over perceived economic mismanagement by the government. Crowds had also been voicing their concern over the government’s handling of illegal mining, a practice that harms the environment.

Police accused some in the crowds of attacking officers, and vowed a firm response to alleged perpetrators. A spokesperson for the police claimed that demonstrators had gathered unlawfully, before clashes erupted.

However Democracy Hub, the group responsible for organising the protest that was meant to last for three days, accused police of staging an attack on peaceful protesters. Russia appears to have suffered a “catastrophic failure” in a test of its Sarmat missile, a key weapon in the modernisation of its nuclear arsenal, according to arms experts who have analysed satellite images of the launch site.

The images captured by Maxar on 21 September show a crater about 60 metres wide at the launch silo at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in northern Russia. They reveal extensive damage that was not visible in pictures taken earlier in the month.

Barcelona goalkeeper and captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen had successful knee surgery on Monday after suffering a ruptured patella tendon during Sunday’s La Liga victory against Villarreal.
