Monaco confirm appointment of Thierry Henry

Monaco have confirmed the appointment of Thierry Henry as their new manager.

The Arsenal legend has vacated his role as assistant to Belgium national team manager Roberto Martinez and will take charge of his first match against Strasbourg next weekend.

Monaco parted company with Leonardo Jardim earlier this week with the 2016/17 Ligue 1 champions languishing in 18th place, having won just once in 12 games in all competitions this season.

‘In the first place, I thank AS Monaco for giving me the opportunity to coach the team of this club so special to me,’ said Henry who made 105 league appearances for Monaco at the start of his career.

‘I am very happy to come back to AS Monaco and extremely determined to meet the challenges ahead. I cannot wait to meet the players to start working together.’

Henry’s backroom team will comprise of Kwame Ampadu, father of Chelsea star Ethan Ampadu, who worked with Henry during their time coaching together at Arsenal’s academy, as well as Benfica Under-23 coach Joao Carlos Valado Tralhao. Read more
