A 39-year-old motor boy, Jerry Adebayo, has appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing cable worth N700,000.
The police charged Adebayo on Friday with conspiracy and stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Victor Eruada, had told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 18, at 11.00 a.m., at Road Bus Stop, Alausa, Ikeja.
According to him, the defendant conspired with others still at large and stole the cable valued at N700,000, which belonged to an Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company.
Adebayo entered the company’s premises and stole the cable and was caught while trying to escape with the item and handed him to the police.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 provides three years’ imprisonment while section 411 provides two years’ imprisonment for such offenders.
The Magistrate, Mrs T. A Oladele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until July 12 for mention. (NAN)
