MTV Shuga Producer Chris Ihidero recently concluded his first ever TV Writing Masterclass

Chris Ihidero, Award-winning producer, writer, and filmmaker  recently concluded his  first ever TV Writing Masterclass, which was organized by the Lagos Film Academy, a non-profit organization seeking to address crucial skill gaps in the creative industry.

This comes on the heels of the widely acclaimed 3rd edition of Story Story, a free storytelling workshop for storytellers and creatives, which took writers, poets, artists, graphic designers, actors, directors, photographers and more on a journey to perfect their storytelling skills.

During the TV writing masterclass, attendees learned among many other things; how to use the universal trait of human emotions to write shows that will travel and be consumed by mass audiences. They learnt what it takes to write amazing TV shows, and how to inevitably make money from doing so. They also gleaned valuable information about how to take their now-honed craft to the next level from writers-for-hire.

“The idea was to have a platform for young writers, aspiring writers, and those who felt they needed to improve their skills to gather to share. I felt it was time to institutionalize some of the trainings I have always done. The most important part of my career has been sharing as passing skills I’ve gained forward,” Mr. Ihidero said.

The Masterclass came to an end with the Trainees attending a monthly Nollywood industry event, ‘First Fridays’ which is a growing hassle-free, hustle-full platform where filmmakers and film lovers meet, mix, and network.

Chris Ihidero who is no stranger to creating, writing and producing TV series from every cadre has been telling stories professionally for over 21 years. He has directed over 200 hours of TV drama including, popular 90s TV series, “Fuji House of Commotion”, “Tempest” and “Now we are Married.”.

He has also been Head Writer of Africa Magic’s  popular serials, “Hush”, and “Forbidden”, as well as being the producer of two seasons of MTV Shuga, the ground-breaking HIV and behavioural change focused drama series.

This is the first of many upcoming master classes and courses to be rolled out by the Lagos Film Academy. It is an institution and a platform seeking to facilitate knowledge sharing and skills acquisition for stakeholders and aspirants alike, in the Creative Industry.
