A hospital is being warned about prescribing a new pain killer to pregnant women after it was linked to the sudden death of a 5-day-old baby girl.
An inquest held in Plymouth on Monday heard Tramadol, prescribed to the mum for back-pain during her pregnancy, ‘played a role’ in the new born’s death.
Pediatric expert Professor Peter Fleming said it was a relatively new drug which could cause severe withdrawal which could be transferred through breast milk.
The inquest heard the baby was born at Torbay Hospital on September 25th 2018 but died five days later at the family’s home in Teignmouth, Devon. Read more
