Controversial cross-dresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has allegedly claimed he paid N5 million upfront to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in an attempt to secure a Federal Government pardon over money laundering charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Bobrisky allegedly disclosed that the SAN had initially requested N10 million for the legal service but explained that he was unable to raise the full amount as his account had been frozen by the EFCC.

The revelation was made in a video shared by popular social media influencer, Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), on Monday, October 7, 2024. Read more

Lagos Assembly suspends council chair indefinitely (DailyTrust)

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday suspended the Chairman of the Alimosho Local Government Area, Jelili Sulaimon, indefinitely.

At the plenary, the lawmakers resolved that the vice chairman of the council, Akinpelu Johnson, should take over the running of the local government’s affairs.

The House further instructed the management of the council, including the manager and treasurer, to recognise the authority of the vice chairman and accord him all the support to make him work effectively. Read more

She stated this at a 2-day capacity building workshop organised by the EFCC and the National Judicial Institute (NJI) for Justices and judges in Nigeria aimed at fostering collaboration between the Judiciary and the anti-graft agency towards enhancing the dispensation of justice in Nigeria.

Police arraign woman over N2.8m failed marriage promise (Punch)

A 25-year-old tailor, Victoria Effiong, was arraigned on Friday before a Lagos State Magistrates’ Court in Iba for allegedly refusing to marry a suitor after collecting N2.8m from him.

Effiong is facing three counts bordering on breach of peace, cheating and obtaining by false pretence.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Chinedu Njoku, told the court that the incident occurred on September 25, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Ajanaku Street, Isashi. Read more

At least one person was feared dead following shootings in Bori in Khana local government area of Rivers State on Monday, October 7.

Alleged money laundering: Court shifts EFCC’s case against Obiano to Nov 13 (Vanguard)

A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, shifted the alleged money laundering charge filed by the EFCC against former Anambra Governor, Willie Obiano, to Nov. 13 for the continuation of trial.

The matter, which is before Justice Inyang Ekwo, could not proceed because the court did not sit.

IGP orders withdrawal of Police from Rivers LG secretariats (Leadership)

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has directed the prompt removal of police personnel who were stationed at the secretariats of the 23 local government areas in Rivers State.

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Bala Mustapha also directed the immediate unsealing of the 23 local government secretariats across the state.

A British doctor on Monday admitted trying to kill his mother’s long-term partner, who stood between him and an inheritance, by injecting the man with poison disguised as a COVID-19 vaccine.

Prosecutors say Thomas Kwan pretended to be a community nurse delivering booster shots and injected Patrick O’Hara with a toxic substance, likely a pesticide. O’Hara, 72, developed a rare flesh-eating disease that left him in intensive care.

Kwan, 53, initially denied attempted murder but changed his plea to guilty after prosecutors laid out their case at Newcastle Crown Court in northeast England. Read more

A Ukrainian drone strike has caused a major fire at the largest oil depot in occupied Crimea, forcing local Russian officials to declare an emergency.

The Ukrainian military confirmed it struck the Feodosia facility overnight and said it was being used to produce oil products for the invading Russian army.

Russia jails 72-year-old American for nearly seven years on Ukraine mercenary charge (NBC)

A Russian court on Monday sentenced 72-year-old American citizen Stephen James Hubbard to six years and 10 months in prison after convicting him in a closed-door trial of serving as a mercenary for Ukraine, a Reuters reporter in the courtroom said.

Investigators said Hubbard, a native of Michigan, was paid $1,000 per month to serve in a Ukrainian territorial defense unit in the eastern city of Izyum, where he had been living since 2014.

They said Hubbard was provided with training, weapons and ammunition when he allegedly signed up in February 2022, the same month Moscow sent thousands of troops into Ukraine. He was detained by Russian soldiers on April 2 of that year, the RIA state news agency quoted the prosecutor as saying last month. Read more
