NAF spokesman, 18 others decorated with AVM rank

The Director of Public Relations and Information at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Olusola Akinboyewa, has been decorated with his new rank of Air Vice Marshal (AVM) alongside 18 other senior officers.

Akinboyewa was decorated yesterday by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, with the support of his wife, Mrs Akinboyewa. He assumed office as the NAF spokesman in October following the redeployment of his predecessor, AVM Edward Gabkwet.

The decoration ceremony featured the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ben Kalu, who represented the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, as the special guest of honour.

In his remarks, Kalu commended the NAF for their steadfastness, courage, and professionalism in protecting lives and property, noting that their sacrifices allow Nigerians to sleep peacefully at night.

“It is worth celebrating when some among you are recognised for their exceptional dedication, professionalism, and determination in carrying out their duties,” he said.

He added, “Today’s ceremony is about honouring these officers as they ascend to higher ranks. The armed forces play an irreplaceable role in safeguarding the nation.’’a role unmatched by any other sector of the economy.

“That is why Mr President, during his national media engagement last night, lauded the armed forces and highlighted new platforms designed to ensure Nigerians sleep peacefully, our borders remain secure, and the dignity of our nation is upheld.”

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar, reminded the newly promoted officers that their elevation is not just a reward but a call to greater responsibility.

“You must continue to exhibit the exceptional determination, selfless service, and commitment to excellence that earned you this promotion,” he said.

“As you take on higher responsibilities, your support and dedication will be even more critical.

“To other personnel aspiring for promotion, let today’s ceremony inspire you.’’

It reaffirms that hard work and dedication are the keys to success and will always be rewarded in due course,” he added. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 33 Group Captains were also promoted and decorated with the rank of Air Commodore. The event was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dr Ibrahim Kana, senior military officers, and families of the newly promoted officers.
