Nine years after the signing into law, Special Peoples Law 2010, members of the National Association of Persons Living With Disabilities, (NAPLWD), Lagos Chapter yesterday demanded for full implementation of the law.

The Chairman, Lagos chapter of NAPLWD, Dare Dairo, who stated this during a press briefing held in Lagos, lamented the non-implementation of the law, which was meant to assist their members, has affected their ability to contribute effectively towards development of the state. Read more

Tackle poverty among disabled persons, NAPWPD urges Sanwo-Olu (Punch)

The National Association of Persons Living with Physical Disabilities, Lagos State chapter, has urged the Lagos State governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to put a specific programme in place to tackle the high poverty rate among persons living with disabilities in the state.

The group noted that the United Nations had estimated that people living with disabilities accounted for 80 per cent of the people affected by chronic poverty in developing countries. Read more

In commemoration of this year’s World Malaria Day electricity distribution firm, Ikeja Electric, has donated mosquito nets to residents of Ajegunle community in the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

Saraki, Dogara, Senators, Reps get N24.6bn severance (NewTelegraph)

The National Assembly, yesterday, passed the 2019 Appropriation Bill, voting the sum of N24.6 billion for the settlement of severance benefits of the outgoing legislators and legislative aides, as well as the cost of induction/orientation and inauguration programmes of the new legislators.

Senate President Bukola Saraki, Speaker Yakubu Dogara and members of the Eight Assembly are beneficiaries of the severance.

The parliament also approved N160 billion for the payment of the new minimum wage for federal workers and payment of severance benefits. Read more

FG, States, LGs share N617.5bn March allocation (ThisDay)

A total of N617.566 billion was Tuesday distributed as Federal Allocation for the month of March, 2019 among the three-tiers of government, comprising the federal, state and local governments.

A communique issued by the Technical sub -Committee of Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) released at the end of meeting in Abuja, indicated that the Gross statutory revenue received for the reference month was N446.647 billion, which is lower than the N478.434 billion received in the previous month by N31.787 billion. Saudi releases Nigerian girl Zainab (Nation)

Zainab Aliyu, the Nigerian girl arrested in Saudi Arabia   for alleged drug trafficking, has been released by the Saudi authority, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mustapha Sulaiman, announced yesterday.

She was released to the Nigerian Mission in Saudi Arabia yesterday.

The official also announced that Ibrahim Abubakar, who was arrested for drug-related crime will be released by the Saudi government. Read more

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has said about 1,071 persons die in crime related incidents across the country in four months.

He said 767 of the persons killed, which represented 71.62 percent of the national rate, were from the northern region. The IGP said the released figures of victims were from January to April this year. Read more

Pakistan and Nigeria have agreed on enhancing collaboration in defence matters (Nation)

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi is on an official visit to Nigeria. During the visit, the Naval Chief called on Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Naval Staff and also visited various Nigerian naval facilities including training units.

Upon his arrival at Naval Headquarters in Abuja, the Admiral was received by Chief of the Naval Staff Nigerian Navy, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas. A ceremonial Guard of Honour was also presented to the Naval Chief on the occasion, according to a press release. Read more

Chieftains of the Nigeria Football Federation are trying to douse the tension in the camp of the Golden Eaglets as the players are agitating over the NFF’s decision to ask them to go to their various homes with N40,000 each as transport fares upon their return from the CAF U-17 African Cup of Nations which ended at the weekend in Tanzania.

Our correspondent learnt that the youngsters had been groaning over the neglect and non-charlatan attitude of the federation towards their welfare at the tournament and were utterly disappointed they were asked to go home with paltry N40, 000 each after spending time in camp and few weeks in Tanzania. $9.5m FIFA grant: Court demands charge against Pinnick (Punch)

A Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, on Tuesday ordered the Nigeria Football Federation to produce a copy of the Magistrate’s charge sheet against Amaju Pinnick and Dr Muhammed Sanusi in the alleged $9.5m FIFA grant scam.

Justice Peter Affen gave the order after NFF lawyer Mr Festus Ukpe told the court that the same matter was pending at a magistrate court against Pinnick and Sanusi. Read more
