Narrative Landscape Press has announced an illustrator competition for Nigerian women illustrators with a N100,000 cash prize and a chance for the winner to work with a renowned author on their first children’s book. The prize money being an advance on a possible future contract to work on the book.
A statement released by the publisher Thursday said those intending to participate must be Nigerian, female and of any age.
“Nigerian being defined as having at least one Nigerian parent,” explains the statement.
“We are looking for realistic, true, quirky, beautiful—yes, you guessed it, we do not know exactly. But we will when we see it. So, send us something true to you. The only rule is that the characters are Nigerian. Each illustrator can send in two versions of their submission. Let us see your range.” The statement further says.
The winner of the competition will be announced before the end of September 2019.
The illustrator instructions are as follows:

Mummy getting ready for bed. Wearing pyjamas. Standing over daughter and Daddy.
Daughter playing on floor with Teddy and other toys.
Daddy is on the floor joining daughter in playtime.
Character profiles:
Daughter: Nigerian toddler. Female. Playful.
Mummy: Thirty-something, professional, middle-class Nigerian mother.
Daddy: Early forties, Nigerian, middle-class.
Teddy: Daughter’s stuffed teddy bear.

Daughter: Nigerian toddler. Female. Playful.
Mummy: Thirty-something, professional, middle-class Nigerian mother.
Daddy: Early forties, Nigerian, middle-class.
Grandpa: Middle-aged – elderly Nigerian.
Grandma: Middle-aged – elderly Nigerian.
Teddy: Daughter’s stuffed teddy bear.
