NDLEA busts Lagos airport drug syndicate

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a drug kingpin heading a syndicate operating at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos, Yunusa Fidelis and six other members of his gang.

Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Femi Babafemi, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, said the Lagos airport drug syndicate was behind the recent smuggling of 1, 584,000 tablets of Tramadol.

He said the drugs were seized on Tuesday 15th March by NDLEA operatives in collaboration with Aviation Security (AVSEC) and Customs service personnel at the airport.

Babafemi said the seizure included 17 cartons of 250mg Tramadol branded as “Tamra” weighing 669.70kg and five cartons of 225 mg Tramadol under the brand name “Royal” with a gross weight of 217.15kg. Read more

Failed kidnap attempt: Lagos Police trail sponsors of abductors of school children (Tribune)

The police in Lagos State are on the trail of sponsors of the abductors of school children in different parts of Lagos State.

Eagle-eyed residents of Omole Estate on Monday arrested Temitayo Olafisoye, while his accomplice, Kayode Akinola escaped during a failed attempt to abduct some school children. 

Operatives of the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, have taken over the investigations and are expected to storm Ibadan, Oyo State, where the arrested suspect operated from.

The arrested suspect confessed to have abducted school children at Ikotun, Berger, Iyana Ipaja, Iyana Iba and other parts of Lagos State. Read more

Police foil hoodlums’ attack on Dangote Refinery, kill 1 (ThisDay)

Attempts by armed hoodlums to attack Dangote Refinery in Lagos was on Monday foiled by operatives attached to the Lagos State Police Command.

THISDAY gathered that hoodlums numbering about 20 invaded the refinery located at the Lekki Free Trade Zone through the waters.

Having gained access to the refinery, they made to cart away installed armoured cables but were repelled by security operatives guarding the place.

However, one of the hoodlums, who was said to have been shot during the gun duel, died on the way to the hospital. Read more

Robbers attack The Guardian photo editor, reporter in Lagos (Guardian)

Dare-devil robbers on Monday night attacked The Guardian reporter, Eniola Daniel and photo editor, Femi Adebesin-Kuti with a cutlass on their way home after work.

The duo was attacked around Apakun bridge, along Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA) Road, Lagos, after the vehicle of the photo editor developed a fault.

Daniel, a city and police reporter, was dealt a machete cut on his head and his iPhone XR, itel phone, voice recorder and N64,000 cash taken away from him, while the photo editor lost his professional camera and other valuables to the robbers.

After the attack, Daniel managed to run back to the Rutam House office of The Guardian along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in a pool of his blood and was immediately taken to the hospital. Read more

Mompha regains freedom as court varies bail conditions (Guardian)

Internet celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha a.k.a Mompha, yesterday, regained freedom from a correctional facility few weeks after his arraignment, following the variation of his bail condition by a Lagos Special Offences Court, Ikeja.

Mompha was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice Mojisola Dada on 8-count charge bordering on the offences of conspiracy and money laundering to the tune of over N6 billion, along with his company, Ismalob Global Investment Limited.

After his plea, Mompha was remanded in the Correctional centre of his choice, but could not perfect his bail conditions till yesterday after variation.

Ruling on a variation of bail application filed by his counsel, Mr. Gboyega Oyewole (SAN), Justice  Dada, upheld the variation of his bail and admitted him to bail in the sum of N25 million with two sureties in like sum. Read more

Police rescue driver, assistant from robbers, recover 3 guns, machetes (NewTelegraph)

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have rescued a driver and his assistant from armed robbers on Lekki-Epe Expressway of Lagos State.

It was learnt that the robbers numbering about seven on Thursday 24 March, around 1:00 a.m had used a blue coloured tipper to block a truck loaded with 33,000 litres of premium motor spirit (pms) at Berger Bridge inward Epe, Lagos. The fuel tanker was heading to Oyo State.

The four occupants of the tipper ordered the truck driver and his assistant out of the vehicle.

They drove away the 45,000 tanker while three other robbers who were hiding in the bush held hostage the truck driver and his assistant, identified as Falana Abiodun and Fatai Opeyemi, before leading them into the bush. Read more

RRS recovers vehicle, gun, dog from fleeing robbers in Lagos (NewTelegraph)

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have recovered a vehicle, gun and a dog from fleeing suspected armed robbers at the Alagbado area of Lagos State.

The suspects, it was learnt, were coming from Abeokuta heading to Lagos when the RRS team stationed at Adura Bus Stop around 2:20am accosted them which prompted the four occupants of the vehicle to abandon it and take to their heels.

After the robbery suspects’ operation was foiled the vehicle recovered from them was brought to RRS headquarters in Ikeja, where the Commander, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi directed the Decoy Team of the squad to commence investigation into the case with a view to unravelling the owner of the vehicle and the suspects.

The owner of the vehicle, it was learnt, has been contacted in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. Police are presently gathering more information that would assist in the arrest of the fleeing suspects. Read more

Alleged N2.9b fraud: Kenneth Amadi diverted Eunisell’s funds – Police (NewTelegraph)

Witnesses have further confirmed before Justice Ambrose Allagoa of a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State, that the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Eunisell Limited, Kenneth Amadi made customers pay for purchases based on the company’s invoice through an account nominated by him.

Amadi’s trial before the court continued on Thursday and Friday March 24 and 25, 2022.

When the matter came up for hearing, a third prosecution witness and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, Ada Uche Anya, while answering questions from the counsel to the Federal Government (FG), Aderonke Imana, informed Justice Allagoa that the police, upon further investigation, established a prima facie case of non-disclosure, breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and stealing by presence against Amadi.

According to the DCP: “The outcome of the investigation was now forwarded to the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice for further advice and recommendation. Read more

N1.2b Fraud’: FCMB Manager, 2 others docked (DailyTrust)

The Ikeja GRA branch manager of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Tope Munis, was on Wednesday docked before a Lagos State High Court for allegedly aiding N1.2 billion fraud.

Munis was arraigned on 15 counts amended charge alongside Dare Osamo and Ayoola Bisola who had earlier been arraigned over the alleged fraud before the court presided over by Justice Oyindamola Ogala.

At the resumption of trial, the Director, Lagos State Department of Public Prosecution, Dr. Jide Martins, informed the court that the state had an amended charge to include the branch manager who allegedly connived with Dare Osamo to swindle Star Orient owned by a businessman, Otunba Babatunde Akanbi Babalola.

According to the amended charge, Munis on the 15th day of February, 2016, while acting as Branch Manager, First City Monument Bank PLC. situated at No 48, Isaac John Street, Government Residential Area (G R.A) Branch, allegedly committed the offence. Read more

Court remands job seeker for allegedly robbing man at gunpoint (Guardian)

Justice Yetunde Adesanya of a Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), yesterday, remanded a 28 year-old job seeker, Olisa Anachuna at Kirikiri medium correctional facility for alleged armed robbery.

Anachuna’s remand followed his arraignment by the Lagos State government on a two-count charge, bordering on conspiracy to commit robbery and armed robbery contrary to and punishable under Sections 299 and 297 (2)(a) of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.

The state counsel, Mr. Olayemi Shofolu, told the court that the defendant and others now at large, conspired amongst themselves to commit the offence sometime on May 26, 2018, at about 6:20p.m. at Kirikiri Road in Apapa, Lagos, while the victim was on his way home from work.

Shofolu said: “The defendant, whilst armed with a pistol, robbed one Nnamdi Ezedialo, the complainant, of his belongings. Read more

Police arraign 31-year-old Chinese for alleged N72.7m theft (Guardian)

The Nigeria Police Force have arraigned a 31-year-old Chinese, Tu Menglei, before a Yaba Chief Magistrate Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing N72.7m from his employer.

Tu Menglei was charged with conspiracy and stealing before Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rita Momah, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between June 2021 and February 26, 2022, at Alaba International Market, Ojo in Lagos State. Read more
