New marine heatwave could kill sea lions and whales (Metro)

A new marine heatwave off the western coast of North America, could threaten sea lions and whales in the area.

The waters off the US west coast, are believed to have warmed at an unusually rapid rate, according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa).

Comparisons are being drawn between the new hotspot and ‘The Blob’, a patch of unusually warm water which occurred over the exact same area between 2014 and 2016, which resulted in the death of sea lions and endangering of whales. Read more
