Nigeria has recorded 189 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the new total to 57,145 in the past 24 hours, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has said.
Making the announcement via its Twitter handle Saturday night, the government agency said 48,431 previously reported cases are now recovered and discharged.
Nigeria’s death toll from the coronavirus is now 1,095.
Africa has recorded more than 1.3 million cases and over 33,000 deaths.
As of September 19, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the continent stood at 33,626. There are 1,390,560 confirmed infections and 1,140,980 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
Worldwide, the number of those diagnosed with COVID-19 is more than 30 million. According to Johns Hopkins University, the global total of confirmed coronavirus cases stands at more than 30.6 million people and almost 95,400 have died, whileome 20.8 million people have recovered.
Meanwhile, Italy will today, Sunday, September 20, allow fans at football games albeit a limited number of spectators. The country has managed to avoid a resurgence in coronavirus cases and Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora announced that up to a thousand supporters will be able to attend Serie A soccer matches nationwide, after the regional governments, the sports departments and football clubs reached an agreement.
