Nigeria records 220 new cases of COVID-19, total now 2,388

Nigeria has recorded 220 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), bringing the country’s total to 2,388.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced the new figures on Saturday via its Twitter handle, of which 62 are in Lagos, 52 from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), 31 in Kaduna and 13 from Sokoto.

Seventeen more people died from the virus in the last 24 hours bringing the number of deaths to 85 with 385 recoveries.

Interestingly, Kano, which has been a source of anxiety over the virus, recorded only two cases as was the case with Nasarawa, Osun, Ebonyi, Kwara and Plateau. Kebbi (10), Yobe (9), Borno (6), Edo (5), Bauchi (5), Gombe (4), Enugu (4), Oyo (4) and Zamfara (3), account for the rest of the cases.

Worldwide the total tally from reliable sources including the World Health Organisation (WHO) as at Saturday is at least 241,682 deaths, with more than 3,398,390 cases registered in 195 countries and territories and at least 1,023,900 recoveries.
