Nigeria records 463 more coronavirus cases, total now 33,616

Nigeria has recorded a fresh 463 cases of the novel coronavirus disease, bringing the total infections in the country to 33,616.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) made this known via its twitter handle Tuesday night.. 

The agency said that 754 deaths have so far been recorded in the country. 

The number of those so far discharged after testing negative to the virus is 13,792.

Lagos, the epicentre of the virus in the country, recorded the highest number with 128 cases, followed by Kwara-92, Enugu-39, Delta-33, Edo-29, Plateau-28, Kaduna-23, Oyo-15, Ogun-14, Osun-14 and FCT-12. Other states with new infections are: Ondo-9, Rivers-9, Abia-8, Bayelsa-5, Ekiti-3 and Borno-2.

As of July 14, Africa has more than 610,000 confirmed cases, with South Africa having most cases on the continent at 287,000 the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has said.

The WHO has warned the pandemic could get far worse if countries around the world do not follow basic healthcare precautions. “The virus remains public enemy number one,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a virtual briefing from WHO headquarters in Geneva.

More than 13 million people around the world have been diagnosed with COVID-19, 7.3 million have recovered, and more than 573,000 have died, according to data from the Johns Hopkins University. The US, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Mexico and Italy have recorded the most deaths.
