Nigeria tops 40,000 reported coronavirus cases

Nigeria’s confirmed coronavirus infections have reached 40,532.

This is as a result of an additional 555 cases,according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The NCDC, which made the announcement via its twitter handle Sunday night, also announced 858 as the total number of deaths from the virus in the country, while the number of recoveries is 17,374.

As of July 26, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the African continent stood at 17,509. There are 828,214 confirmed infections and 484,038 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

Over 16.19 million infections have been reported worldwide, while more than 647,000 people have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University. More than 9.32 million patients have recovered.
