Nigerian lady, Joyce Ijeoma, who set out to achieve a 72-hour body massage on individuals has collapsed.

Ijeoma collapsed while on the attempt at the venue in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

The masseur who had done a total of 50 hours collapsed during the wee hours of Tuesday. Read more 

Fake Result: JAMB slams 3-year ban on Mmesoma (Sun)

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has slammed a ban three years ban on a candidate, Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma restricting her  from sitting for Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination. 

The board had also assured Nigerians that its system was neither tampered with nor compromised.

JAMB also restated its earlier position that the UTME result being paraded by Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma is “patently fake” .

The examination body in a statement by its Acting Director, Press and Publicity, Fabian Benjamin, on Tuesday, explained that the candidate, Mmesoma the candidate simply falsified a copy of a result slip of a candidate named “Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle”, who sat the UTME in 2021 and scored 138. Lagos man in court for N5m iron rods fraud (Punch)

A 42-year-old man, Okwudili Orji, was arraigned on Monday for allegedly stealing iron rods worth N5m in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State.

Orji was arraigned on two counts bordering on stealing before Chief Magistrate Patrick Nwaka at the Yaba Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecutor, Cyril Ejiofor, told the court that the offences Orji committed contravened Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015. Read more 

UNILAG announces date for 2023/2024 post-UTME screening (Guardian)

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced the commencement of online registration for the Post-UTME Screening Exercise for admission into all courses and programmes.

The 2023/2024 admission exercise screening is scheduled to commence on Monday, July 10, and Friday, July 28.

The registrar and secretary to the council of UNILAG, Ọladẹjọ Azeez, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. Read more 

Presidential Tribunal: INEC closes defence in Obi’s petition (Punch)

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Tuesday, opened and closed its defence in Peter Obi’s petition challenging the result of the February 25 presidential election.

Recall that Bola Tinubu was declared the winner of the election and was sworn in as the president on May 29.

Obi of the Labour Party is urging the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja to set aside Tinubu’s victory on the grounds that the Independent National Electoral Commission failed to comply with the electoral laws. Read more

Tears as slain UI Prof is laid to rest (Nation)

The remains of slain Professor of Social and Environmental Forestry, at the University of Ibadan (UI) Prof. Isaac Ajewole were on Tuesday laid to rest in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

Ajewole was buried amidst tears at Cathedral of St. James The Great Cemetery, Ijokodo, Ibadan.

He was gunned down in his Olororo, Ojo, Ibadan residence by yet-to-be-identified assailants on June 5, 2023. Read more

Robert De Niro “deeply distressed” over death of grandson Leandro De Niro Rodriguez (FarOut)

Robert De Niro has said that he is “deeply distressed” following the unexpected death of his 19-year-old grandson Leandro De Niro Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was an actor in his own right and appeared in the Bradley Cooper film A Star Is Born. His death was announced by his mother, Drena De Niro, who stated: “My beautiful sweet angel. I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly. You have been my joy my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life. I wish I was with you right now”.

The late actor started following the family profession as a child when he made an appearance in the 2005 movie The Collection. From there, he began working more regularly in 2018, playing in Cabaret Maxime, where he acted alongside his mother and in the same year, he also portrayed Leo Stone in A Star Is Born. Read more

Scientists find the remains of a catastrophe on Mars scattered across the planet (Inverse)

The Zhurong rover has operated on the surface of Mars for over a year since it deployed on May 22nd, 2021. Before the rover suspended operations on May 20, 2022, due to the onset of winter and the approach of seasonal sandstorms, Zhurong managed to traverse a total distance of 1.921 km (1.194 mi).

During the first kilometer of this trek, the rover obtained vital data on Mars’ extremely weak magnetic fields. According to a new study by researchers from the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS), these readings indicate that the magnetic field is extremely weak beneath the rover’s landing site.

The research was led by Aimin Du, Yasong Ge, and Huapei Wang, three professors with the CAS Engineering Laboratory for Deep Resources Equipment and Technology and the Institute of Geology and Geophysics (IGGCAS).  Read more 

Barbie” director to adapt “Chronicles of Narnia” films for Netflix (DigitalSpy)

“Barbie” director Greta Gerwig has landed her next project, with the writer-director set to adapt “The Chronicles of Narnia” novels for Netflix.

As per The New Yorker, Gerwig has a deal with the streaming service which will see her write and direct at least two novels from CS Lewis’ classic series.

Lewis’ series has been adapted in part before, with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader being released in 2005, 2008 and 2010 respectively. A fourth film, based on “The Magician’s Nephew”, was originally planned but never materialised. Read more

Suede have cancelled their scheduled shows at the O2 Academy Brixton and announced a run of intimate replacement gigs.

The band, who released their ninth album ‘Autofiction’ last year, had been scheduled to perform two consecutive concerts at the south London venue this December as part of a wider UK headline tour.

However, Suede have made the decision to scrap their planned appearances due to continuing uncertainty surrounding the O2 Academy Brixton’s future. Read more

Chechnya Milashina attack: Armed thugs beat up Russian journalist and lawyer (BBC)

Prominent investigative journalist Yelena Milashina has been badly beaten and had fingers broken by masked men as she travelled to a court in the Russian republic of Chechnya, colleagues say.

Ms Milashina has received death threats in the past from Chechnya’s notorious leader, Ramzan Kadyrov.

Amusan  defied the rain at the Bauhaus Galan in Stockholm winning the women’s 100m hurdles race in a 12.52 time with a tailwind of +0.9 m/ in a scompetition delayed by rain in a cool evening with a maximum temperature of 15°C/59F.
