Nigerian student breaks record in SAT (DailyTrust)
Sochima David Chukwudi, a student of the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), has broken a record in the Scholastic Aptitude Test, also known as the SAT, where he scored 1590 out of the maximum score of 1600 points.
SAT is taken by high school juniors and seniors applying to colleges and universities. This exam can be taken internationally six times during the year.
According to records, the highest score ever recorded by a Nigerian student is 1510/1600.
This means that an NTIC student now proudly holds the record of the highest scorer in the quite competitive and challenging test. Read more

The Supreme Court will on Thursday, settle the legal dispute that has been trailing the presidential election that was held in the country on February 25.
Though five petitions were initially entered against the declaration of President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the presidential contest that involved 17 candidates, however, only three of the petitions made it to the apex court.
Whereas two of the petitions were withdrawn before they could even be heard by the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, that held its proceedings at the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, of the three petitions that were entered at the Supreme Court, only two of them made it to the last lap of the litigation. Lagos dislodges scavengers from Olusosun dumpsite (Punch)
The Lagos State Government has dislodged scavengers from the Olusosun Landfill in Ojota, stating that their illegal activities, which include the burning of tyres, might spark a huge fire on the dumpsite.
This was disclosed on the official X handle of the Lagos Waste Management Authority on Wednesday.
According to the post, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, said the dislodgement operation was primarily for the benefit of those residing near the landfill. Read more
Lagos engages in business partnership talks with German state (Nation)
The Lagos state government has hosted a delegation from Bavaria for a bilateral discussion on areas of investment between the two states.
The visit was facilitated by German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria, a part of the global network of German Chambers abroad, and an official representation of the German economy that provides advisory support services to German businesses that intend to make a market entry into Nigeria.
The commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade & Investment (MCCTI), Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, who received the delegation, said a key priority of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration is Making Lagos A 21st Century Economy, by promoting ease of doing business, encouraging sustainable practices and adopting inclusive economy through the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Development Agenda. NRC to launch e-ticketing for train trips next week (Guardian)
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that it will launch electronic ticketing (e-ticketing) on its standard gauge network next week.
The NRC’s Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria, made the announcement while fielding questions on Television Continental (TVC) on Wednesday.
Okhiria said that the last leg of the testing of the platform will be accomplished on Wednesday when it is expected to go live to a restricted number of people for last-minute glitches before it is opened to the general public. Read more

The Chief Executive Officer of Wealthy Honey Nigeria Limited, Dr Kayode Farinto, has called on the Federal Government to abrogate the 7 per cent port development levy and 15 per cent import adjustment tax placed on used vehicles to mitigate the hardship of Nigerians.
Speaking with Daily Sun, Farinto who is also former Acting National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) said that if government really wants to reduce the suffering of people, these taxes need to be abolished because they are not adding value to the nation’s economy.

Oil Theft: Navy deploys 10 warships, helicopters to Nigeria’s waters (Guardian)
The Nigerian Navy on Wednesday deployed 10 warships, two attack helicopters and 500 ballistic boats in a special amphibious exercise to curb crude oil theft and sea robbery in Nigeria’s waters.
Rear Adm. Umar Chugali, Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Central Naval Command (CNC), headquartered in Bayelsa flagged-off the exercise code-named “Exercise Sea Guardian” in a short ceremony in Onne, Rivers.
He said the joint military exercise conducted by both the Navy’s CNC and Eastern Naval Command (ENC), Calabar, was launched to reduce insecurity to its barest in the nation’s territorial waters. Read more

Netflix is teasing the new film Leave the World Behind. The streaming service shared a trailer for the movie Tuesday featuring Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali.
Leave the World Behind is based on the Rumaan Alam novel of the same name. Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail wrote and directed the adaptation, with Alam, Barack and Michelle Obama, and Tonia Davis as executive producers.
The new film follows Amanda (Roberts) and Clay (Ethan Hawke), a couple whose vacation with their children (Charlie Evans, Farrah Mackenzie) “suddenly erupts into chaos,” according to an official description. Read more

Samuel L. Jackson has paid tribute to actor Richard Roundtree, who has died aged 81.
Roundtree died in his home on Tuesday (October 24) in Los Angeles after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
The actor had his breakthrough role as detective John Shaft in the 1971 blaxploitation action thriller Shaft. He went onto play the character across four sequels, including Shaft’s Big Score, Shaft In Africa, and two modern sequels in 2000 and 2019 respectively, starring Jackson as Shaft’s nephew. Read more
South African ‘hostage’ miners emerge from underground amid union dispute (AlJazeera)
More than 100 miners who had been underground for nearly three days amid a standoff between rival South African labour unions have returned to the surface.

The actor, 34, will be stepping behind the camera to revisit Hogwarts from the viewpoint of his stunt double, David Holmes.
According to Deadline, Holmes became paralyzed from the chest down with a debilitating spinal injury after an explosion on-set during the filming of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1 sent him plummeting to the ground. Ethiopian scientist Gebisa Ejeta receives National Medal of Science from US (BBC)
Ethiopian-born scientist Gebisa Ejeta has received the National Medal of Science, the highest state honour attainable by scientists in the United States.
US President Joe Biden said he awarded Mr Ejeta the medal for his “outstanding contributions to the science of plant genetics”.
Mr Ejeta is acclaimed as one of the world’s leading plant geneticists.
