Nigeria’s coronavirus case numbers rise by 457 to 44,890 with 927 deaths

Nigeria’s coronavirus infections recorded a rise by 457 new cases Wednesday as reported by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Nigeria’s confirmed coronavirus infections now stand at 44,890.

The NCDC, which made the announcement via its twitter handle, also announced 927 as the total number of deaths from the virus in the country, while putting the number of recoveries at 32,165.

As of August 5, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the African continent is 21,102. There are 980,832 confirmed infections and 656,040 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

More than 18.7 million people around the world have been diagnosed with the new coronavirus, while the global death toll surpassed 704,000, more than 11.2 million have recovered.

The United States reported 1,262 more COVID-19 fatalities in the last 24 hours, according to data by the Johns Hopkins University, figures that take its total death toll to 157,930.

Spain reported 1,772 new coronavirus infections, marking the biggest jump since a national lockdown was lifted in June and beating the previous day’s record rise.
