Nigeria recorded 354 new coronavirus cases Thursday, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Nigeria’s confirmed coronavirus infections now stand at 45,244.
The NCDC, which made the announcement via its twitter handle, also announced 930 as the total number of deaths from the virus in the country, while putting the number of recoveries at 32,430.
As of Thursday, August 6, a million people across Africa have been confirmed to have had the new coronavirus, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. However, health experts warn the peak of the pandemic has yet to hit the continent.
The situation in the United States has continued to be viewed with a lot of concern where a forecast by health experts at the University of Washington said that nearly 300,000 Americans could be dead from the virus by December 1. The university however added that 70,000 lives could be saved if people were scrupulous about wearing masks.
The US death toll stands at over 159,000, the most of any country in the world, with 4.8 million known cases.
More than 18.9 million people around the world have been diagnosed with COVID-19, while the global death toll surpassed 712,000 people. Over 11.5 million have recovered, according to data by the Johns Hopkins University.
