Nigeria’s COVID-19 figures hit 47,290, as 423 more people are infected

The number of people infected by the novel coronavirus in Nigeria has increased by 423 the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said.

Making the announcement via its verified Twitter handle Tuesday night, NCDC noted that the total number of confirmed cases in the country is now 47,290.

Of that number, 33,609 have been discharged from the isolation centres across the country having tested negative, while 956 deaths have sadly been recorded.

The current figures show Lagos State reclaiming its pole position in the number of cases recorded with 117 new infections, followed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with 40 and Ondo-35, among others.

As of August 11, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the African continent stood at 23,582. There are 1,055,964 confirmed infections and 744,438 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

The worldwide count of known COVID-19 infections climbed past 20 million on Monday, with more than half of them from just three countries: the US, India and Brazil, according to the tally kept by Johns Hopkins University. The global total of confirmed coronavirus cases is now more than 20.1 million. More than 738,000 people have died, while 12.4 million have recovered, as of August 11.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
