NLC, TUC begin nationwide strike midnight today (Vanguard)

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, counterparts, have resolved to commence the planned nationwide strike from midnight today.

The strike is to protest the battering of the NLC President and others in Owerri, Imo State on November 1, as well of the pending labour issues in Imo State.

They had on November 7, resolved to declare a nationwide strike by Tuesday, November 14, if their demands were not met.

Saudi cancels visa of Air Peace 264 passengers after arriving in Jeddah (DailyTrust)

There was shock and disbelief when the Saudi Arabian Authorities cancelled the visa of all the 264 passengers airlifted to Jeddah from Lagos and Kano on Sunday.

The authorities insisted that the airline should return them back to Nigeria.

The flight took off from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos via the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano on Sunday night and landed at King Abdul-Aziz International Airport, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Read more 

Judge’s absence stalls Naira Marley’s alleged cybercrime trial (Punch)

The trial of a popular street-hop artiste, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, who was charged with alleged cybercrime, has stalled due to the absence of the judge meant to give a verdict in the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State.

The court scheduled to sit on Monday for the trial, failed because the trial judge, Justice  Nicholas Owiebo, reportedly attended a judges’ conference.

Peacemaker stabbed to death as Lagos church crusade turns sour (NewTelegraph)

Tragedy struck over the weekend when a church crusade turned to free for all and a female church member making peace was stabbed to death in Lagos.

It was learnt that the female peacemaker, Rachel Johnson, 47, who was separating a fight between some church members at Abaranje, Ikotun area of the state, was stabbed to death.

A senior police officer who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity said at about 3:am on Saturday, the deceased’s husband, Okerube Johnson, came to Ikotun Police Station to report that his wife Rachel, had gone to a crusade in a church, but that some church members were fighting and Rachel, a peacemaker, was separating fight between some church members who were fighting over an undisclosed matter. Another boat accident in Taraba claims over 20 lives (Guardian)

More than 20 people who were said to be fishermen on Monday lost their lives in a boat accident that occurred around Anyiin, River Benue, in Taraba State.

This sad incident is happening barely two weeks after over 70 souls perished when a boat capsized in the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Taraba state governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, condoled the families of the victims of the latest incident that happened between Chinkai in Benue and the Anyeci area of Wukari LGA in Taraba. Read more 

Cult Clash: 3 dead, others arrested in Ogun (Channels)

Three persons have been killed with three others arrested in the Sagamu area of Ogun State, police authorities said on Monday.

The Ogun State Police Command disclosed this in a statement, saying the victims died after rival cults clashed in the Agbowa area of Sagamu.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Omolola Odutola, stated that some suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident. Read more 

Cherubim and Seraphim church spiritual leader, Baba Aladura, dies at 103 (Vanguard)

The spiritual leader of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide, Prophet Samuel Adefila Abidoye, has died at the age of 103.

The news of his death was announced by the church’s Secretary-General, Special Apostle Ademola Odetundun, who stated that the cleric died on Sunday morning at about 10:00 a.m in his Ilorin home, the Kwara state capital.

Odetundun stated that the deceased, after having his breakfast, was prepared for church service when he decided to take a rest and “passed on peacefully thereafter.” Read more

Civil war veterans write Tinubu over exclusion from military pension (Nation)

Ex-soldiers who fought on the federal government side during Nigeria’s civil war have petitioned President Bola Tinubu over the exclusion of some of them from the military pension, forty years after the end of the war.

The veterans who are of the 63NA in a letter signed by its national secretary, CPL Akewuyi Bayo, and the national coordinator, CPL Babawande Philip, which was made available to The Nation on Monday, November 13, said they have tried to present their grievances through different media but to no avail.

They said while ex-Biafran soldiers and policemen have been considered and enrolled as monthly pensioners by the federal government under the leadership of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, the federal troops were however left behind. Read more 

Gabon junta promises free elections in August 2025 (France24)

Gabon’s military leaders who deposed president Ali Bongo Ondimba in August announced on Monday that elections would be held in August 2025 under a timetable that first foresees national dialogue.

“August 2025: elections and end of the transition,” a regime spokesman said on live state TV, referring to an official but “indicative” transition timeframe, adopted by cabinet but to be submitted to a national conference next year.

The conference, scheduled for April 2024, would be made up of all the country’s “vital actors”. Read more 

Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 makes worldwide debut at No. 4 despite delayed holiday release (Variety)

Yash Raj Films’ Tiger 3, starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, debuted in fourth position at the global box office with $11.5 million, according to numbers released by Comscore.

The film achieved this despite opening in India on Nov. 12, a Sunday, on the day of the Diwali festival. Diwali is India’s biggest festival and audiences traditionally shun cinemas in favour of family celebrations in the run up to it. However, Monday and Tuesday are also holidays in several parts of India, giving the film the flavor of a weekend, albeit a couple of days late.

Tiger 3 opened in North America a day earlier, on Nov. 11. The Hindi-language film was also released in Tamil and Telugu-language dubbed versions. Read more

Infants dead after incubators fail at Gaza hospital; EU calls for more humanitarian pauses (UPI)

At least three premature babies died at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza after an Israeli missile struck near the facility amid continuous bombing raids against the militant group Hamas after more than a month of war.

The resulting explosion overnight Saturday took out a backup generator that was powering Gaza’s largest hospital, leaving the facility in the dark and forcing doctors to rescue as many as 40 premature babies from incubators that were helping keep them alive.

Three of the infants died after the blast shut off the power, while another two adult patients died in the intensive care unit from injuries suffered in the blast, according to Ahmed Mokhallalati, chief of the plastic surgery department. Read more

Nigeria’s Super Eagles Group C opponent in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Zimbabwe, has unveiled the Warriors 23-man squad.

The Super Eagles will be guests to Zimbabwe on matchday two of the qualifiers on Sunday, 19 November.

The Zimbabwe Football Association announced the squad on their X handle on Monday.
