Igbo monarchs set Dec 28 to end Osu caste (Punch)
Major traditional rulers in the South-East have set December 28, 2018 to abolish the controversial Osu caste system in the region. Six held in ‘attack’ plot against French president (CNN)
Six people have been arrested in France on suspicion of planning to carry out a “violent” attack on President Emmanuel Macron, officials say. The individuals, reported to be five men and a woman, were picked up by the French security services in Brittany, north-east and south-east France. Six Ryanair cabin crew members pictured sleeping on the floor of a Spanish airport office last month have been sacked, the airline says. The image, which Ryanair said was staged, was widely shared online. A Portuguese union that represents airline crews criticised the airline. 400 level NOUN student wins second Four-Inch Heel Race (Guardian)
Precious Chukwuma, a 21-year-old 400 level Mass Communication student of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has won the second edition of the Four-Inch High Heel Race held at the main bowl of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos at the weekend. Precious defeated 79 other contestants to win the one-day 100 metre dash. During the heats, she enjoyed easy runs, but she was given a strong challenge in the final by Annetta Adebusuyi and Hassana Musa, who had to settle for the second and third positions respectively. Doctors in a private hospital in Benin City, Edo State are battling to save the limbs of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) board member, Brown Ebewele, who was involved in a car crash along the Lagos-Benin Expressway. Ebewele was in Lagos for the recent investiture ceremony of the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC), and was on his way back to Benin City when his private car was involved in an accident around Ore in Ondo State. Arrested Togolese suspected to have masterminded the killing of Ope Bademosi, Ondo high chief and businessman, Sunday Anani, is said to be making more revelations aimed at helping homicide detectives at the Lagos State police command to resolve the killing. A top police officer at the Homicide section of the State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCIID), Panti Street, Yaba, Lagos told The Guardian that they were still gathering intelligence from some of the persons related to the businessman. Police arrest nurse, cleric over alleged sale of placenta (Guardian)
A middle-aged woman described as a nursing attendant in a privately-owned hospital in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital and an Ilorin-based Islamic cleric have been arrested by the police over alleged sale of the placenta of a newborn baby. Sources said the placenta was allegedly sold by the nurse to the cleric for N20,000 to be used for money rituals. Read more
