NNPC Ltd restores 275,000bopd production in landmark agreement

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) successfully mediated a peace deal on Sunday, bringing an end to the rift between the Management of Total Energies, operator of the NNPC/Total JV, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG). 

The unions have agreed to suspend ongoing industrial action leading to immediate restoration of 275, 000 barrels of oil per day production. 

The resolution, marked by a marathon negotiation session chaired by Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, Executive Vice President, Upstream, NNPCL, resulted in the immediate suspension of ongoing industrial action, paving the way for the restoration of 275,000 barrels of oil per day production.

The parties involved, including Total Energies, PENGASSAN, and NUPENG, committed to resolving all outstanding issues within an agreed framework. The signatories to the communique included Total Energies MD/CEO Mr. Matthieu Bouyer, PENGASSAN President Comrade Festus Osifo, and NUPENG President Comrade Williams Akporeha. The negotiation process was witnessed by NNPC Ltd’s EVP Upstream, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, and Mr. Bala Wunti, Chief Upstream Investment Officer, NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS). Also present was Mr. Victor Bandele, Deputy Managing Director of Total Energies.

This landmark agreement signals a significant step forward in the collaboration between industry stakeholders and sets a positive tone for the future of oil production in Nigeria. 

The Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., Olufemi O. Soneye, announced the successful resolution in a press release issued from Abuja on 11 November 2023.
